These seem to be well-received and it also helps new eyes see the project. Reception here has always been astoundingly better than other places, and thank you for that.
By now you've heard of our project: http://toprustservers.com
And if you haven't, well, then take a gander. We've added and fixed so much. Tested, debugged, been hacked, been ddossed, and still we stand: ready to tackle the next thing. We've dealt with server downtime, switching servers due to the first database being overtaxed with usage. We've all taken time away from rust to make sure the site is running in tip-top shape!
What an incredible month it has been. Would we trade it? Absolutely not.
Some Stats This Month:
- Over 350k page views
- First place on google for "rust servers" for past 2 weeks
- 1500+ members registered
- 5000+ votes cast (we wiped mid month because of vote fraud)
- 9000+ servers tracked (and responding)
- 700+ servers claimed by users
- 1000+ comments made on servers (the pulse of the community)
This has been such an amazing project to be apart of. A huge Thank You to everyone who has shared the site with friends, talked about the site on your site/forums, etc. You've made this project what it is.
Lot's of even bigger plans for next month.

Consider making bidding period a bit longer next time, I wasn't even online to see it!
Also excellent work, as for voter fraud you guys did a great job. People are still kind of cheating by giving players in-game items for votes or air drops which is sad, but hey nothing you can do there.
Look forward to the new features (and hopefully flags getting fixed haha.. my server has like 20 flags on it)

How are the servers ranked?

Suggestion - have a list of what stuff means.
for someone like me (noob) lol
I dont know what half of the stuff is listed
like Oxide? starter kit? removal tool? etc
would be cool to have a little
button that you could click on and have a popup with and explanation :)
all i did when i started playing was try the first few servers listed lol - no clue what the difference is

Thank you on the voter fraud. And yeah, have some ideas there. Not sure how they will be received but the brain is churning.
I look forward to developing them! And as far as flags... let me guess, Firefox? Yeah, I need to replace that soon. Really sorry about that. I'm a chrome guy myself and have tested with other browsers but not extensively... ti seems some versions of firefox hate the site. But I'd never know if it wasn't for people like you, so thank you!

Ah, I'm running nightly 29.0a1 (it's a 64bit experimental build of firefox)
I'd say bidding for two days would be fine, just to give some server owners enough time early in the AM/ late at night to see the bid at least once, it was over before I even got to see it due to scheduling

Alrighty, we're moving servers to a much bigger server so we'll be able to withstand the massive amount of concurrent connections without affecting regular site operations. I'll definitely really consider this, and sorry you missed the last round. Would maybe moving the bidding to another time for the 24 hours be better, though? Right now it's just 12pmCST(GMT-6) to 12pmCST(GMT-6) the following day.

We could look into this, for sure. I'd like to do it wikistyle, so people can contribute a better explanation if it exists. Definitely will look into this, though. Thanks!

Right now:
Servers get 10 points for every vote
2 points for everytime they are offline and we ping
10 points for actions on the site (like setting up their profile/listing, etc)
We have more ideas on this, but we are waiting for the wipe tomorrow to implement them.
Hope that clears it up.

Not bad and hopefully you mean they loose two points for every time they are offline and how often is the ping?

Right now we ping every 10 minutes. So you'd essentially lose 12 points per hour you are down, consistently. You feel that's too harsh? Our thinking: if your server is down, it's an inconvenience for your player base. But I'm open to suggestions on how to improve, if necessary :)

I was wondering tho, why are most the top ten servers empty or less then 50 people? I guess there great servers, but then why so low population.

As for emptiness: Really just depends on time of day. Later in the nights I've seen some of them with 50+ players in them. :)

But realy a problem is the contact to you only via twitter....
thats realy unprofessional.
why dont make a homepage or a forum where we can write our serverpostings and other stuff...
on twitter only you decide what posts are official and whyt posts you will not let them see the community.
if soemone is wrong with some thigns from you, he cant write this on twitter if you dont repost this!
pls be more professional and do a forum and a homepage!

I have a question for you guys, how do I change the banner to a custom one? & how to I re-direct the traffic to our server's information & rules page? We only have one server on our rust servers list link? I'd like people to see the information about our server before they decide to join - so they can see what we have to offer before joining. The other thing is we want to welcome new players to Rust - so it's important to us that they understand how the game works before joining.

tiki> Thanks for submitting your server :) You can change your banner after you've claimed your server. You'd go to that page: http://toprustservers.com/server/9004 and you'd click Edit Server Details (after you've claimed it). Then you just use a 468x60 banner of your choice and you are good.
As for directing traffic to your page? Just link to here: http://toprustservers.com/server/9004 and that should be good. If you need people to go to the voting area, that's here: http://toprustservers.com/vote/9004

We'll open things back up on the 11th or 12th. We are going to allow for more time to bid this time. New spots fill in on the 13th though.

This is subject to change, be adjusted, etc at times. We'll try it on for size and see how everybody likes it.

Perhaps you should scale the points for "people online" to "amount of people online".

Only issue there is some like being on low pop vs high pop servers. Naturally lower pop would lose out because they would never have the volume of higher pop but it was never their intention to do so. It gets tricky. If you have any ideas on how we might be able to do that, though, PM me and let's talk. :)

Is it really worth $250 for the top spot? Are these guys getting ROI on this? I dont see that paying off at all. Maybe 4 months from now when more banners are spread out on forums and the site pulls in more traffic but wow... not now.

thanks! we're just focused on growth atm, so that's the name of the game and plan. a lot of servers have grown a lot from using our site, so I have no doubt if you are competitive and have something to offer, you'll fill up in no time.

when the top spot first got listed it had only a few people playing on it
the other night i saw it with 70+ ppl on the server ...could be a coincidence but im sure his top spot played VERY big into that
right now it is hard to monetize rust as a server but as the game develops it will go the minecraft route with paid ranks and if you have a good playerbase before that is released you are ahead of the curve so they are investing in the future of the server
I like how jwerd does it tho - he could easly set prices for each spot but he lets the market determine what the spot is worth..so to say its not worth it .. well maybe 250 is alot to you and not worth a top spot but the guy who bought it felt i was something he could afford and it was worth it.
