I thought decay rates were always a bit fast. I understand and think its a great mechanic to add a new edge and remove a lot of the older clutter that gets strune about when players leave the server. But how bout having a week minimum decay timer before it starts to fail. Some people do have lives outside of the game and to have to check in even once every 3 days can be tough for some people. And what if heaven forbid you want to take a vacation? you come back and your months of hardwork is gone because you have a real life? I understand that this is a hardcore game and it takes a hardcore player to make it in it. But when a game forces you to give up time in real life just to maintain a bare minimum, that needs to be modified. Again, love the idea think its great. Just the timer needs to be a little slower before things start to fall apart. Show me a wood wall that disappears in 3 days and ill stop talking

The other thing about my suggestion of sleeping bags / beds as decay preventers, if someone leaves the server and doesn't come back, there is the problem that their base simply won't decay, but that can be solved by breaking into their base, grabbing their stuff, finding their sleeping bag and destroying it.... then the base will start to decay over time.

Or just take the base over.

No some people have jobs and kids, if you are not a parent you have not a clue
Mate, just in my server today I had one guy invite and help get started his kid, brother, brother in law, mate, workmate, and boss - clearly you have it wrong if you think people with jobs and kids don't have a chance in this game.

    and for the server owners
to be able to change these settings would be the best for everyone, that way everyone can get what they desire
Agree with you there, though. We've just turned off decay in our server since we now have the ability to clear whole bases (foundations and all) through new mods.

As to the topic of decay being too fast.. Yes and no. It's calibrated for the official servers, which have thousands of players on in any given 3-day period, many of whom probably play for a while, realise the community/modded servers offer a better experience, and switch... Leaving behind their structures.

For smaller servers, yes it's quite unnecessary - perhaps an auto-timer to turn it on for one day out of every 4 (or on for an hour every 4-5hrs) would be adequate, so structures would disappear after 2+ weeks instead of a few days.

so rust is almost like a tamagochi thing where kids had to play it several times a day or their digital pet died or something?

it would be good if it had an automatic sliding scale of sorts.. the more buildings ? players? in the server, the more frequent the decay.

low pop server = no decay.
high pop server = faster decay
