You are full of crap. My 6 year old gaming rig can play maxed. If you are having framerate problems, you didn't get a gaming machine....at least not a good one.

my computer is 5 years old and runs the game perfectly fine. laptops are an inherently stupid investment for gaming. you pay more for less power so if you get a budget laptop there is a good chance 2 years later you will need to get a new one .
He made a dumb investment because if he spent that much money on a computer, then it should be able to run much better than that. The point that it doesn't means that the computer he bought wasn't worth the money he spent on it because he could've gotten a much better computer for that amount of money.
I agree. I run around without grass because no one can hide in the grass. I see someone ducking thinking they are hiding in the grass when they're in plain sight. grass.on false is like saying bushes.on false or rock.seethrough true. It removes a cool element of the game hiding in the grass.
A two years old box at 900€ being so powerless. Highway robbery.
Beside the point anyway. There should be a shitty grass alternative to nice grass so the game can be played in a more stealthy way.
Would be great if it could be disabled, so everyone has a fair shot against eachother instead of the benefit of turning it off.
BUT if people really lagg because of that then it's not fair for them..
Hard decision.
Lol same
Always with the grass on, just think how much better you'll be when it finally becomes mandatory.
I didnt even know that rabbits/chickens existed before I turned off my grass.
The problem with grass is that when you kill a player or animal and then you leave the area for a second (still in a fight, or whatever the reason may be that you had to leave) it's hard to find the loot in the tall grass and you can't see anything. However, I do agree that the tall grass in some spots does help with hiding, etc. so there needs to be a happy medium when it comes to this.
And this.
Cool so those will just be servers I don't play on.
Forcing something that makes the game potentially unplayable is stupid.
Grass isn't everywhere, not in the amount that the game shows, and there are always places that are litter and duff with no grass
It doesn't matter how pretty they make the grass. If there is an option to turn it off I will do it simply because of visibility. My PC can run with it on no problem.
I wish everyone used grass to level the playing field. I like how it looks and gives the game depth and atmosphere.
Interesting, because in 09 I built a High End PC, and it couldn't play on max. I'd say you're full of shit, or your "6 year old" rig has some newer components inside of it.
Either there's something severely wrong with your graphics drivers/hardware itself, or you made a really horrible investment choosing non-gaming parts.
What are you specs? Because if you have to turn everything down to a bare minimum on a 2-3 year old computer, you gotta be either using a laptop or a $300 Walmart-bought HP. Btw, $1200 for a gaming computer will set you for a good 8-12 years, seeing how you can get some pretty beefy hardware components with that kind of money. I've only invested $700 into my computer and it's been running strong for 5 years now, handling everything I throw at it.
If grass makes the game potentially unplayable, you have to think about what is playing. As said someone already, what if I say that the game is unplayable unless other player are bright glowish yellow, because otherwise I cannot see them in the dark, should that be an option for me?
The engine is not flawless. BIG ASS constructions make my high-end computer freeze for a second when it renders or when it's about to render, this is something important that must be fixed.
Until this kind of thing is fixed, grass.on false will exist or else people that can't play with grass on (because of low FPS) won't play.
IMO facepunch need to focus on content/gameplay instead of visuals, right now it seems Unity or something facepunch has done makes this game run crappy, the game's graphics isn't exactly bleeding edge either, but people really don't care.
Yea I don't think he should need to repurchase if he bought well to begin with, and judging from the way he says replace a computer every 2-3 years it sounds like hes just chucking away the old one not reusing any parts lol
Edited:
understand but if there was option to lower res and textures of the grass i don't think it would make a huge difference (just IMO)
Edited:
I mean, i admit most of the grass that i've seen is pretty tall, would be nice if some area's were a bit less as otherwise it would be the same everywhere. I also never saw rabbits/chicken before i turned off grass lol, luckily they aren't that important to surviving hunger
Edited:
i can agree with this but ill add to what someone said before about what is playable, the people who struggle with grass on sounds like they would be struggling with grass off anyway, i'd love to hear the specs of their pc if anyone wants to share and what fps they are getting within the game.
This is kinda turning into a hate thread...
Why?
The engine has some issues and because it's still "alpha" I believe now is the time to fix this kind of thing. I am sure that in the next few weeks/months this stuff will be fixed and everybody will be happy.
New content/gameplay is something for later on, fixing the core issues (grass, hacks, gravity weird stuff, etc) is the priority, IMO.
I turn off the grass because if I don't a voice in my head with an Indian accent shouts "Don't go into the long grass!"
lol
Once again, this issue is not about cosmetics but gameplay. They may as well remove the ability to crouch until then.
(Unity, a .NET/mono thing that does not seem up to what Creation Engine or else provide is maybe part of the equation. Is there a page where they explain the engine choice?)
will be removed if the ability to disable the grass that there will always be cheaters that will disable it - and you'll be playing with grass. The advantages are obvious
I have a computer I bought five years ago with a GTX 570 upgrade a couple years later.
Computers will sell for 1200 dollars online when they've got no hardware that actually equals up it's own worth as being 1200 dollars.
My computer I bought 5 years ago was 600 bucks and had a quad core/could run Battlefield 3 easily.
You made a dumb investment and bought a computer from Dell or something, you have to build your own gaming computers or you'll get fucked and overcharged.
Seems like more people in this thread believe me more than you. You bought crap components, or a laptop.
I'd like to see areas with high grass. (Over your head high) I think it would add to the game. I wouldn't want this everywhere but in some of the larger fields would be nice. Imagine roaming through the grass not knowing what you could come across. Or if someone is chasing you you could double back and get them.
yeah pretty much what i was thinking and i guess most of us, over your head high seems kinda extreme but maybe 1 area like it would be pretty cool. either way it just adds a new element to the game since everything is really open atm
If they can optomize the grass better, I'd be ok forcing it on, I'd really like to be able To hide in the grass, but I have to run all lowest to get a good fps, though this last patch did Help some.
There could be an option for "low-res grass", which would make it stop moving, and maybe make it less bigger chunks, rather than many small. Or a person crouching in grass should become less visible, so even if you have grass turned off, he would be hard to spot. Maybe
So much this. I build a desktop with an i7 920 when they first came out (Around 2009?), gtx 460 and 12gb DDR3 tri-channel. Runs everything flawlessly on highest settings (Some thing require a little overclocking of the GPU). Cost of the build was around 800 USD.
I still find it fairly easy to hide though, an unfriendly neighbor moved in with a team of 4-5 people in his wood fort. Lots of rocks near by to hide in (Big rad town), so after I got tired of him KOSing me when I gather wood naked I frequently assault his base. Take pot shots at them with the rifle and run and hide in the rocks, sneak up on their base and eves drop on their voice conversations and start making comments until they run outside to find me, etc.
It's really quite amusing, they have not caught or killed me since I've started and it's been several days. They cornered me the other day and I sprinted past three of them with shotguns and kevlar, they missed every shot and I hid again. Some dudes raided them and I ran in before they could get to their bodies and stole several m4s, kevlar and shotguns.
I wanted a nice gaming laptop and got hooked up with my Alienware M17x last year. Was about $2000 but I did a month of research beforehand. I can run anything at highest settings with no issues. That bastard is going to last me for years.
How are their laptops? I dislike their desktops because I can always build something cheaper, but not much of a market for parts to build laptops.
A friend of mine got a band new Auora desktop for 400 a while ago, he got it home and we realized it would crash every few minutes, so the guys who sold it must of thought it was dead and tried to screw him.
I spent a little bit poking around and the previous owners mixed 4 different sizes and brands of RAM, took that out and let him borrow some of my own and it's worked flawlessly ever since.
I feel exactly the same. After the update I enjoyed the grass for a bit but then noticed how tall it was. After turning it off the change is so drastic you have to play with it off.
You turn grass off because you cant find shit in it. If you kill someone or die you cant find your bag at all in the damn grass. I would honestly quit this game if they made it so you cant turn it off.
There doesn't have to be a significant amount on lower settings in order to maintain the occlusion factor, it just shouldn't be able to be completely disabled as it is the only form of concealment in open spaces.
That's where I was at. I had a decent desktop from earlier but I wanted something more portable, and building a laptop fit for gaming is more than a pain in the ass. I can honestly say my laptop is better than I could've hoped. The minimum clocked i7 CPU m17x is amazing, and the radeon HD 7970 is not only cheaper but much better than the nvidia cards offered with it. Cannot recommend it enough, probably the best purchase I've made. Plus you've got those pretty lights :)
So yeah, if you're building a desktop, steer clear from Dell, but you'd be hard pressed to find a cheaper gaming laptop that performs just as well as a powerful desktop.
Good to hear that you've got your desktop running great!
Way to completely miss the point.
