We're talking about Rust, don't drag unrelated shit into this to muddy the issue.

For the for the first three weeks, Rust warned everyone that VAC was enabled. And people complained when hacks came out and people started using them and did not immediately get banned.

People began posting complaints that "VAC was not turned on" and that garry had been lying the whole time and the warning was just a scare tactic hoping that nobody would cheat.


And then several hundred VAC bans went out. And all of a sudden the Rust subforum was flooded with lots of newly-registered accounts claiming they were wrongly VAC-banned. This is a very common tactic, and a well-known pay-for-hacks forum (AA, I'm not spelling out the full name because it's also their URL) explicitly told its customers to claim innocence and cry false-positive in a thread personally observed by Rust developers before its existence was made public and the AA mods deleted it.

MW2 had false vac bans which were technically positive.

People modded the game so there would be more ping bars, so instead of just having a thing saying bad/good ping with no inbetween it showed them more detail.

VAC picked up on that due to it being a mod and how MW2 had a very strict setting on VAC

It was a positive, but the devs didn't like how it banned so many people for something so insignificant
If you mod the game, and the devs dislike how you did it, they can choose to not contact valve about it.

yet that isn't how vac works at all and many many many others have done the same thing over and over without getting a vac ban
