Bummer, really sorry to hear that - I had heard talk of how the DLLs (at least in previous versions) had bugger-all obfuscation, so I guess I was optimistic that the map data files would follow suit :p So perhaps the next-best thing would be for players to pop into one of those '150(0?) free planks for every player' buildfest servers, assuming they can test in their desired location - and once they have seen how many foundations they can put down, and in what configuration, they can lay those down in your tool and go from there. A bit clunky but still a great deal better thanks to your hard work!
Yeah, the DLLs and the data files are two different things. The data files are proprietary engine format, but the DLLs are stored in a well-known format called CIL - Common Intermediate Language (which was made for .NET, but can be executed with the open-source version of .NET that Unity uses, Mono).

Thank you all for nice feedback, we are working on some fixes but it might be compatible with saved designs. We will try not to happen though.

It is possible to place walls on top of walls in the real game without a roof,
You cannot place walls on walls in this tool.
    Otherwise excellent.

    Some feedback:

You can place a bunch of pillars in the location of the same pillar, you'll see it change colors a bit, but the Resources costs won't go up. But when you remove the pillars that are in the same location, their cost is removed from the resources costs, even though all except the first one was not added to that. So you can get into negative resource costs.

When trying to build a 2x1 building with stairs in alternating location (as opposed to making 1 big high staircase with a side-door on each floor), I can't build stars on the first raised level. This is the design ID (it also shows the negative resources used):
    oY6XwJCCNMFkkevPQkw4gtjDlwFUtJRSHYQdHsQvewQzKmpAHV FXoYAKvgEYZwRH
The visible ceiling between the floor is where I would like to place the stairs.

Also, I find it pretty difficult to get a view closer to the building, looking down from above. I can get closer, but then it will just view the bottom... I can't manage look inside the top of a tower for example.

I managed to put a wall on a wall by placing a ceiling on the first walls, adding the next walls, then removing the ceiling you never wanted. But that's just a silly workaround :).

    Edit:

    this is what i mean.
I noticed that too. In case his picture was not clear enough yet, the game lets you all walls/doorways/windows between pillars that are in the middle of foundations but the tool doesn't.
Which can be used to make his example of a 2x2 building on a 3x3 foundation, which would be like this:

Nice job! I actually started something like this a few months ago, but I was using it more as a way to learn Unity, and eventually got bored with it. Only added foundations, pillars, walls, and staircases.

This is a very user-friendly way of building! It would be pretty cool if this was further developed. Adding the other building materials and a list of used materials mostly. You even already have the functionality of building walls between pillars that are in the middle of a foundation, unlike the other designer tools I've seen, nice! :)

We are aware of that and working on it.

A workaround for this would be place the stairs on the first floor, click on that stairs to add another stairs to second floor and remove the first one later. I know there are a lot of bugs and stupid workarounds but we are trying to do our best.

Currently this is not possible to add any walls in the middle of a foundation or a ceiling, also on our to do list.

I offered him to team up and make a better one but I didn't get any reply, maybe we can change the whole structure to make it more user friendly like this one.

Other than that, thank you for detailed feedback :)

I'm working on a full HTML5 version of this tool for a new rust site that I am working on. I liked the idea just not having to download additional software to do it. As you build it will create a dynamic link for you to share. More info soon.

    Bump,

I just tried the tool as well and the very first thing I tried was middle of the foundation wall placement. Does not work in tool. I can say thanks for your work as this has some seriously fun potential.

    Here:
    Code:
    6QXNquTYkLqo2M2goauZIkZSDZtrjimq9kdzP7x9SYyVKAb9LG9u18mE8Q6s8sSh
In order to put walls on walls, put a ceiling first, put walls on ceiling and remove ceiling later.
To add stairs to the other tower, select stairs from the menu and click on the existing stairs that I put for you.

I always suggested a tool like this when those people kept making calculators... Sweet little app you got here. It's a little difficult to navigate but it's the first 3D calculator base designer. One thing that doesn't seem to work is being able to place walls on top of other walls with pillars unless there's a ceiling there. So like around a staircase for example. otherwise really good work. Oh just read your post. Nevermind about the walls on walls then.
