I decided to remove the banlist I have already in efforts to save my server and allow legit players in. I'll be watching though. Always watching.

I totally agree that there should be a shared ban list haha, I used to do these with my cod4 buddies but we would check them out first.

    "spying on people"?
I'm the admin of the server, how am I supposed to keep legit players in the game if I'm overrun with hackers and dupers?
    EDIT:
Besides, all regular players in the server know that I do this and they all agree with it. Only cheaters would say that this is "admin abuse." I do not raid people as an admin and I rarely even play the game as an actual player. I spend most of my time on the server flushing out hackers and this is the best way to do it for now.

Yeah, so your team can destroy there shit.,... Only nubbs would agree to that shit.... the wolve guarding the sheep..... funny stuff..most aren't dumb enough to buy into that...

I play solo all the time. There are two main clans on my server and I've told them all that I will always play solo for exactly that reason.
I know that there are a lot of abusive admins, but I do everything I can to make sure that I'm not one of them.
    EDIT:
You can attempt to troll me all you want, but I know (and those that play my server know) that I am not one of the admins that you seem to think everyone is.

Amen brother. I'm not 'that admin' either on my server. My server needs people to play in it to discover that for themselves, but at that... I refuse to be an abusive admin.

If I watch players hack through structures, and abuse gameplay mechanics for exploiting, cheating, or glitching... I'll ban them. Let them whine. Don't really care. Reason being: I want legit players in my server, not 14 year olds who got ahold of moms and dads credit card and decided to buy this / pay for a cheat.

At that, I play with friends a lot, and when I do... I play legit as well. I don't dupe or any of that wild shit. I just play the game to play it and have fun. If they wanna go raid with me I will... and if I die.. well that's my own damn problem. Time to start over again.

But when I watch someone fly out of the middle of the sky who isn't an admin, and blow up my structure to shoot me directly in the head first shot without knowing where I'm at inside.... I'll obvious know somethings suspicious with that and issue the ban. If they wait a second or they spray wildly without seeing me and kill me... sure, I'll let it go... but if you directly aim towards my head not knowing if I'm on a box, crouched, or to the left or right... and you one-shot me without taking extra shots... I know you're full of shit and I'll just issue the ban.

That's called active administration and knowing there's a time and place for a ban versus just banning anyone who kills me because they raided me when I wasn't prepared...

I had a guy attempt to raid my shack the other day and he blew it up, and he died instead of me... while he had an m4... so it's obvious that attackers can be thwarted... hackers are a different story though.

    Hello,

This is indeed a serious issue, until Facepunch gets rid of the hackers and glitches some measures should be taken by the community. I am tired my self of hackers and glitchers breaking the game.

So just to let you know:

I am working on a website system using the suggestions posted here as well as Di0g0's idea.

    Features:

    1. Administrator registration & log in.

    2. Administrator verification through adding a string to their server name, only 1 account per server IP (allowing to avoid duplicates/fakes).

    3. Player denunciate page, so that players can call up any abuse. The registered administrators will have to vote up or down the complaint, if several votes are positive the record will be deleted from the list (any other administrator can re-add it again). If the record is a false ban the Administrator that added it will get 1 negative point, when an administrator receives 3 negative points (3 fake bans) the account will be suspended and all the records added by this administrator will be deleted from the list.

    4. Search system, the page does not list every single record added to the database, it would use resources that could be saved. Instead, you will be able to search either the Steam ID or Nickname (if you want to find yourself you could do it this way to check if someone has banned you for no reason).

    5. Downloadable list, you will not have to copy and paste each and every record added, you will be able to download the file with the correct format to add it to your configuration file on your server.

    6. Notice of modifications since last visit. So you know if you want to download the list again or not.

This will be more of a community driven ban list, the only thing I will have to do is process the verifications of the accounts, which could take from 24 to 72 hours (depending on the free time I have).

The beta will be released in the following days for anyone that wants to test it.

I agree with banning people for using Asian characters (These players are not from Asia and are using these characters to avoid bans and reports it is not racist)

However this list is a joke you.

Your asking to ban players that are being "assholes". No ones going to take this seriously because of how broad the term "asshole" is on the internet. For now just report players through their profile

DO NOT USE BAN LIST ON HERE WE HAVE A SCUMBAG PROBLEM.

I have friends in low places.
Just to reiterate, several of the posts in this thread are obviously fake.

However, Rust Admin can band together to share real hacker ban lists.

In addition, there needs to be a way to confirm lists before they are used.

This is fucking great!!! It's good to see the community working together to ban the players. I hope EVERY server admin bans all these players on their servers to stop the hackers just hopping server.

    Great idea!

Is anyone aware of a tool that allows you to look up Steam IDs in bulk? The folders located in File Manager > \save\myserverdata\userdata\ are named using Steam IDs and include the "last modified" time stamp. It is easy to copy-paste them into some kind of tool for use when Admins hear of exploit/hack activity. This helps identify and narrow down multiple suspects without having to pop the IDs into SteamIDFinder.com one at a time.

A good idea in theory, a bad idea in practice. I'm sure admins falsely ban people all the time - either for not cheating, or they just don't like someone, or a friend gets raided or legitimately killed and the admin bans them as a friendly gesture... Stuff like that. How many servers have you guys played on where the admin will run around with godmode killing and raiding players, or spawning items in for their friends? They are to be trusted to contribute to this player list? Doesn't seem right to me.

Just have to wait for the exploits to be patched, and VAC does a nice big banwave.

    Hello!

Posting an update of the progress of the website. Currently I have completed the following:

    1. Registration system.
    2. Log in system with signed data (if you are logged in on your computer, and lets say you log in to the website again from a tablet it will automatically disconnect the user from the other sessions :O)
    3. Verification system (e-mail and rust admin verification)
    4. Verification requests (in case you are not verified within the given time frame, you can request it directly)
    5. Profile system
    6. Password recovery system (with expiration links in order to protect a user's account)

    Under construction:

    1. Ban Dashboard:

    Displays the next information:
    a) Your latest entries added to the database (accepted, reviewed, rejected, all.)
    b) Latest entries added by all the administrators (shown in the screenshot below)
    c) Latest additions to the ban list (reviewed and accepted), this list will contain only the entries that have been "voted" by atleast 5 administrators (registered and verified users).
    d) Latest filled complains (denunciate system), registered users will be able to review the information provided by the user that filled the complaint. Registered users will vote up/down only if they know the user (please...). All voters will be logged on the records, if any abuse is detected the users that voted in favour or against (depending the case) will obtain a +1 false entry (kind of a karma system, if you get 5 False entries in your account, it will be suspended and the records added will be deleted from the list - if any.)

    2. Denunciate system
    3. Searching system
    4. Listing details

Now, here's a preview of the website's Ban List Dashboard. All the data is loaded in real time, meaning if anything changes or is added you will see it here.

    Thoughts? ;)

This would likely be a better alternative to creating an ultimate banlist. I approve and am excited to see how it develops.

I kinda agree with you. While I think this is awesome, there should be a way to ensure that legitimate players don't get banned in the process. Some admins can be pretty childish and ban people for the sake of their own rage. Who is to say that one of those admins posted on this thread and got said player banned from all these servers for no reason?

Then you have't checked what I have posted to prevent these activities. Sure there's no bullet proof system to not ban legit players, however this system will ask everyone if they know X player before they are added to the list. If it was a fake or not backed up (no proofs) entry, well, the user will end up being suspended.

Note that only one account per server can be registered (I need to verify the user before they can do anything), this way the system will prevent duplicated accounts (or users creating multiple accounts)

This is stupid. What's to prevent someone claiming to be a server admin and simply adding the steamID of someone they don't like?

It's sad that the community has to come together like this to make an effort to stop hackers when FP doesn't seem to be doing enough about it. Additionally, they're making game-breaking bugs possible by having client-side exploitable files. What a joke!

I will quote the information if how the system will work:

    How it works

Rust Ban List is a Rust community list of banned players. It is updated when a verified Rust Administrator adds a record so it is constantly growing. Note that to prevent false bans, before adding the Steam ID to the ban list it first needs to be confirmed/re-added atleast 3 more times by other verified Rust Server Administrators. When a record obtains 5 votes or more (>50% of votes required to take action, for example an entry gets 5 votes, the entry would have 3 votes let's say in 'vote up' and 2 votes in 'vote down', or 4 votes in 'vote up' and 1 vote in 'vote down'), it will be enabled or removed (depending the case) from the official list.

    Administrator Registration and Verification

The verification is simple, when a Rust Server Administrator registers; the account needs to be verified by the Administrator of Yam Games (host & developer of this website) as well as e-mail verified as mentioned on the registration page. To verify the account the Server Administrator must add the following to the beginning of the server name/title:

    [YG-V: registered-username] your server name

For example: [YG-V: Yamiino] [US] NoSleepers | PVP | whatever else...

Note that it is only permitted 1 registration per server (per server IP also found as "net.connect"). The verification process can take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, we ask that you set the name/title of your server as mentioned above before registering an account in Rust Ban List. You will have to check if your account has been verified by loging into your account through the log in page, if your account is not verified within the 72 hours limit period, you can resend the verification request by clicking the Resend button that appears on your profile page.

    Denunciate false bans

As a player some times asshats will add to the list Steam IDs of legit non-hacking & non-cheating players. If you find your Nickname & Steam ID in the list and you have done nothing, please send a complaint through the Denunciate page. This will be reviewed by the registered Administrators of the Rust Servers, if they vote against the ban, the record will be deleted from the list and so, it should be lifted from the servers using the latest Rust Ban List.

If a registered administrator is found adding several false bans to the list, the account will be suspended and the records added by the account will be deleted.

Note that any other registered administrator can add the record again after it has been removed.

Looks good, but it might be better to work on a player reputation system, like MCBans for minecraft. I feel just a plain voting system probably wouldn't work that well as not many admins would 'downvote' bans, and they would only go there to add bans or 'upvote' bans. But a rep system would probably require a server side plugin for Rust++/Oxcide.

If you do go with the voting system, I think it would be a good idea to not make the voting numbers public, as I think people are more likely to vote and agree on something if they see the numbers, or if it's very close to being confirmed I can see admins voting to make it 5 and confirm it.

And for either system, you could also crawl the steam profiles of banned profiles, and if a VAC ban is issued against the id, then you could increase the rep/karma of the admin/server.

Thank you! Yes I agree with the voting numbers, I will remove them from showing up.

The VAC Ban system you are talking of sounds promising, I didn't really know about that website. Basically the karma system on the website works against the owner of the account (admin/server).

I guess something like this would help up with the control of the bans, however I am not sure of how you see it working or implemmented.

For example, let's take a random ID I copied from one of the posts above, 76561198051446624, the VAC Ban system says that user has never been banned. What would happen if this happens or what would happen if the account has been banned before in VAC?

    Would it:
    a) Check if a user has been banned before in the VAC website and affect the final decision (act against the ban or in pro of the ban)

    b) Check if a user has not been banned and add a negative karma point to the user that tried to add the Steam ID to the Rust Ban List.

    - Worked on global steam login (for visitors), instead of logging in on specific blocks of information (comments, denounces, etc.) visitors can now log in with their Steam ID (Steam API) from anywhere on the website, also fixed some bugs with URLs when receiving the call back from Valve.
    - Worked on "new bans" page, where registered users will be able to look up any VACBanned / Steam / Database information, once a search returns positive the data is saved on the databases to improve search functions. You can search the following information from the steam accounts:

    a) Steam ID (STEAM_X:X:X format): Resuting positive 99% of the time.
    b) Steam ID 64 (17 numbers): Resulting positive 99% of the time.
    c) Steam Persona name or nicknames used: Resulting positive 50% of the time (if a nickname has special characters or spaces it will not work, however if a nickname has only letters and/or numbers it will result positive 99% of the time)
    d) Steam URL or part of the URL (look at the "testing" example, the URL has "~~/testing/" in it). This results positive about 30% of the time, it is best to find the steam id or steam id 64 before searching to retrieve the steam user you are looking for, as it will only return 1 result per search it could return anyone that is found having the string you searched for.

    - Under construction, selecting the data and inserting it into the step 2 of 2 from the "new bans" page.

    Latest images:
    1. This image shows all the information from X report and all the data you need to know before adding a coincidence (a new report about the same reported user, it's not added into a new page, your report is attached to the current one to show more information about X user.) http://i.imgur.com/cKci4Se.jpg
    2. This image shows a user "testing" (it's funny someone actually has that nickname lol) and will display a notice if this user has never been added to the report list (entries confirmed, pending or rejected, doesn't matter). This shows all the nicknames this user has had in the past, it also shows the dates they were found on. http://i.imgur.com/LxDPv5y.jpg

    - Worked on steam identification for comments. Non-registered users can send messages with their Steam Persona name, when a user sends a message a steam icon will appear next to their name, if the message was sent by a registered rust ban list user then the icon will be the rust logo icon, these two link to their propper profiles, the registered user to the website's profile and the steam users to their steam profile. This will be the same identification system for denounces.
    - Worked on comment loading system to entries (bans), the page will load new comments on the go, without refreshing the page, also scrolling down will show the message history like facebook :D

Date: 12/Jan/2014 Beta will have to wait a bit longer, got stuck in some things, however I expect to have the website working this week.
    - Added smileys to BBCode (fixed some issues with the parser and added some more) http://i.imgur.com/MlhfviQ.jpg
    - Worked on Steam API, users will now have to: Verify their e-mail, their steam account and receive Rust Ban List server owner verification. Now we know who we're talking to as the information is displayed on the Administrator's profile.
    - Worked on Logging Steam Data from the verifications for saving resources to avoid looking up the same steam id twise, all public data is now saved in the database (available through Steam API).
    - Worked on VACBann Logging, when a user confirms steam ownership VACBann Data is also retrieved and saved for the records. This will help in the future by saving the next information:

    1. VACBann Status (Not Banned, Banned, Deleted, etc.)
    2. Country
    3. Used Nicknames (history) and detection date

When you first register on Rust Ban List: http://i.imgur.com/B2qFPdt.jpg
Then, you are sent to steam: http://i.imgur.com/iGG8uCN.jpg (so much censorship )
Then when that's done steam tells us who you are and we save that stuff: http://i.imgur.com/IszqjXg.jpg

    - Under construction: Denounce page, the user will have to verify his Steam ID by logging into steam through the website in order to send a denounce. To avoid other users denouncing (not the affected reported user).

    Date: 11 /Jan/2014
    - Worked on the ban entry details area, to insert the information added by the reporter(s) as well as the information added by the user that opened a dispute.
    - Worked on parsing BBCode, text areas will be able to use format (like posting on this forum but better ). This is meant to help the above to add videos, images and general structure to the text.
    - Worked on a comments area, these will be loaded automatically at the bottom of the entry - still under construction.
    - Worked on bugs related to voting results returning 0 on denounces when the time limit has passed.

    [HR][/HR]

Untamed: took your suggestion of the voting system showing up the numbers, guess this is perfect:

Ban List Dashboard, still updating automatically all data, now with "click to view" and new data/design.
Users cannot vote in their own original reports.
When someone repeats an entry, it is not duplicated but it is stored as a "coincidence" understand it as a "the user also was reported by". Reports (first time added) and coincidences (duplicates) can cause Karma Level increase.
Other users (registered) can vote during reports or complaints, when you vote for a complaint the result will be processed when the "time limit" is reached. If no action is taken or the percentage of votes is 50/50 the complaint will be automatically updated adding more time to the limit time frame (a day or two).

Karma system explained, level by level.
Let me know who is interested on helping me test the system when it's ready, I'd like to test the registration system for now. As I'd also like to test the security of the website, which I'm pretty sure is solid, but a test is always welcome.

I thinkt he system will be ready this sunday or monday, depending on if I find flaws or bugs or find a better way to do things :P (I can spend a whole day or two on the same code over and over lol)

    ---------------
    Edit:
Regarding the VAC system you mentioned Untamed, I got the main script to obtain the VAC data as well as the steam data (using the steam API). Guess there's no point to add a user that has been VACBanned since that is supposed to block access to the game already globaly. However, I will also take into consideration checking the other status such as UNBANNED and DELETED.

I will also make it so that when you search for a Steam ID, Steam ID 64, Nickname or Steam URL on the top search field of the website, it will also include the steam and VACbanned data.
