Okay guys, here's the deal.

As Admins, and legitimate players, we all need to seriously work together to fend of the "glitchers" and cheaters of the game.

I think one of the first steps, is that we should share and combine ALL of our Banned SteamIDs. To me, this feels like one of the first lines of defense we can throw out there since nothing is being done yet and the problem is growing exponentially worse. The second step, is having every player possible, and yourself, report those SteamID/Profiles for cheating.

Start listing them in this thread, AS MANY AS YOU WANT. This will very well heavily prevent the "glitchers" from Steamrolling through servers causing pathetic and silly chaos and prevent them from ever playing the game again once it's more stable and the Devs of the game actually decide to show some thought/care about their creation and playerbase.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend any of you Admins or Server Owners seek a Third Party Anti-Cheat to be put into your Rust server - As it would be useful even years down the road. I've asked HFB Servers to do the same, and I am waiting on an answer.

I fully support this. For now it seems a reasonable defense, especially for those of us who have rather small servers that are very easily overrun by just a couple cheaters.

this is a bad idea lol, i've been banned from servers just because the admins were dickheads ( i wasted a ton of ammo on some asshole in godmode, then complained about it, so i was banned), and that wasn't the server owner, so an owner could easily post a list with such bans like that from their admins without knowing

Definitely don't do this. I've never been banned, so I don't really have to worry, but this could so easily be abused. Sounds like a recipe for having someone slip in an ID of someone they don't like and getting them banned to a lot of servers.

Please don't use this. The reason something like VAC ban lists is that VAC bans them *only* if they're being hackers, with this the admin could have banned someone that they just didn't like.

Too bad VAC takes 1 week to 4 months to do that. VAC may not detect people corrupting their game files either, as opposed to easily detecting a third party program like an aimbot.

Well we know at least that it detects hacks, but only the people that developed it and the people that implement it into their game know what it doesn't look for.

Thanks for this thread, this will help me alot with my server :) but im wondering, what type of glitch's are there right now? so i know what to look out for.

Eleganze, right now there are certain .dll, data files of rust, and framework items that people can delete, move, alter, or otherwise corrupt, that causes glitches in their game(like super speed or clipping through walls/doors) and carries over to whatever server they log on to. There are also of course, third party applications, that show you data(location of people/minerals/structures) on everything, act as an aimbot, duplicating items, etc.

That's all I know of atm.

I would not use other admins ban lists that I do not know cause I have no idea if maybe someone just banned people cause they THOUGHT they were hacking. I am not really keen on using OTHER admins banlists but I will share mine with you guys.

I check all players that have reports of hacks with invis gear and make sure I have seen them my self either glitching into a base or headshooting me from across a field while I am invis before I ban anyone. MOST of the bans are glitchers though that I just caught going thru peoples walls.

That will still get abused in the same way the list that's been created here in this thread will be abused. It's just a bad idea all around.

Why?

Only confirmed admins from specific servers can add their ban lists. This will work for information only, and admins from other servers can check the list to confirm thinks.

Thanks for the banlists guys. I will be updating my ban config file as soon as my server is up and running, and will definitely be looking for others to add bans to as far as wall-looters, glitchers, exploiters, hackers, etc.

I'll probably attempt to run a project website soon dedicated to adding id's to a database for banning. That way it writes to a config file and it can be publicly downloaded. Only downside is if someone is legitimately not cheating but an admin adds bans because of other shit.

None the less, I'm sure the problem children will make themselves readily available for my index finger.

As I said the objective of the "ban list website" is only for information, and only restricted people (server admins from selected servers) can add their bans lists, this way, other server admins can see and cross information...

Its only a ideia, easy to make, but idk.

You know what, this doesn't have to be Permanent either, like I'm sure most of you are thinking. Once there are MUCH BETTER counter-measures out, BOOM - Unban All and commence the trial of second chances with better cheating/glitching deterrence/detection.

those just may have been dickish admins becuase they can spawn invis gear and if they were hacking and using invis gear than an admin could take away the armour by doing a cammand

I actually encourage you to.

Reason: Defense against glitchers/hackers and a widely known ban list for them? Sounds great. Only downside is if people upload the ID's of those who haven't been caught hacking and were just banned due to being idiots / jackasses in servers.

If only the ban option would allow you to add a "reason" in there so that way we could filter out the people who were banned for reasons other than glitching/hacking/exploiting.

This is an amazing idea, surely no admin will ban someone out of rage for raiding his house, call him a 'hacker' and so he's blacklisted from other servers with possibly reasonable admins. Nope, people are just way too good for that sort of thing to happen. Seriously people, how naive can you be to think this won't be abused by shitty admins with a vengeance for people that they just don't like? What about if one of the admins mates says he just saw a hacker, but in reality the guy killed him legitimately? There's just too many way's for this to be abused, you can't trust people that much.

EDIT: And this is just on the topic of the website where only admin's can access it, never mind posting random steam ID's in this topic.

This is an awesome idea for a ban-list database/website.

It would certainly make it easier for admins to keep this problem under control and confirm suspicious users.

I wouldn't use theses lists..,.Admins are now banning if your asian or have asian characters in name or have private profiles... Seems kinda racist and not a reason to ban people...

With a database that tells the reason for banning, this idea would work.

Obviously non-hack related bans should not be included.

I ban people with any special characters because I cannot type their name.
I always use popup messages and voice chat to try and ask people to change their names, if they refuse or ignore me then it's the banhammer.
There's nothing racist about it, I don't care if it's asian characters or just a u with an umlaut, if it's not a button on my keyboard then I ask to have it changed.
