I've experimented quite a bit with wolves, bears and zombies this weekend with the idea of holding coliseum like arena matches on our server. You know ... like when Russel Crowe had to fight off tigers along with those mean old gladiators. Anyway, that isn't working out like I hoped but it has sparked new ideas for base defense.

I've successfully pulled several bears through a wood gateway into a fence of spike walls. To my surprise, they are quite persistent and have remained in the pen for about 18 hours now without de-spawning. So it occurred to me to fill the spike wall fence around my base with these hostile critters just for an added layer of defense while I'm logged out. I admit that, for a well geared raiding team, my pet bears would only be a speed bump ... but still it would make life interesting for all parties involved. (Take my Kevlar, just don't hurt Ted!)

It will be another week before I can try this out for myself but if anybody else cares to give it a shot I'd appreciate knowing how it turns out.

    Cheers!

I tried something different. I made a corral near a resource field that has a lot of wolves and bears, and baited them in there. The idea is that if you capture them (instead of killing them), they wont respawn again, making resource collecting a little easier.

It was going quite well, until one of the two legged beasts shot me!

It's not worth the effort, to be honest. Killing them with a bow requires a lot less resources, and isnt exactly hard. I think they should make them wolves and bears a lot more of a threat.
