So I just wanna take the time to clear things up here. First if you are having trouble please open a ticket and we will do our very best to assist you, you can also PM me your ticket # if you would like and I can review it. (PM'ing me your ticket though doesn't necessarily mean it will get done faster).
We also do not oversell any of our locations or machines. In fact this the main reason we have to put up so many physical servers to accommodate orders are we deploy fewer services per machine than our competitors typically do. I believe you are seeing that in your control panel currently because of a DDoS attack (not some uLink exploit or anything like that, but a good old fashion tons of Gbps attack) and the server's IP is null routed. Obviously we like to avoid null routes and not have to put them in place but a certain point it becomes necessary.
Almost every location we have does have some form of DDoS protection but for the level attacks that we have been seeing recently, upwards of 20+Gbps it becomes necessary to null route. As Rust does not properly support multiple IPs we end up with every Rust server on the machine being unreachable. I would also like to mention that out of the hundreds of machines we have with Rust servers on them 2-3 are effected by this DDoS at the moment.
So basically you have no way of defending against this sort of thing? Just have to wait it out i guess...
Well I made a final ticket asking to be switched to Chicago as soon as room is available, I'm really hoping this helps. I was told it could be a few days.
Haha.
I guess this explains why my Rust server has not started. I purchased a Chicago-based server from
HFB tonight, and after 8 hours or so, my server still hasn't been activated . . .
If Chicago is full, take the option off the table for the time-being!
The problem is they get a DDOS attack, and they don't just re-allow access once the attack stops. Instead HFB sets an arbitrary time to wait before removing the null routing of the IP address... so my server gets DDOS's last night at around 8PM and then HFB forces me to be down until 8AM the next day.
The way they handle the DDOS is terrible. Shutting down the IP is not a viable defense against DDOS. However HFB seems to also be saying that RUST does not support multiple IP's, which I take to mean that they cannot just change the IP.
But HFB, can't you just come up with something that restores the IP like 30 minutes after the DDOS stops instead of 12 hours later???
We very much agree that 12 hours is very high, the issue is we ourselves do not place the null routes on the servers, the Datacenters themselves place the null routes on the IP's, We try to get them removed early, we try to get the times reduced, heck we even try to negotiate the thresholds at which the DC will start the null route at however ultimately the time frame simply depends upon the Datacenter your server is in, we have negotiated very short periods like 30 minutes in some locations, however some still have very long periods like 24 hours and will not budge on the time period.
It is also worth noting that we are not the only gsp that has to suffer through null routes, many other gsp's which are located in the same Datacenters our servers are in have the same exact policy's as once again, the DC sets the time frame in the end, Not us, or any other gsp for that matter.
No, you misunderstand. I haven't been DDoSd. I just purchased a server -- as in I just completed the payment. I am awaiting the e-mail that says my server has been activated. However, I chose the Chicago location, so if Chicago is indeed filled, then that might explain why my server hasn't been activated in over 15 hours now. If the Chicago servers aren't available at the moment, they should temporarily remove the option to pick Chicago when purchasing a subscription -- or at least tell new subscribers that there may be a wait period.
Just checked HFBServers again and went to purchase new rust server. Indeed Chicago is still an option in the location selection. Very odd, I certainly hope they are not letting people select Chicago and then just placing them somewhere else.
Still no update yet on if they have gotten the new Chicago servers in. I'll post again when I receive an email.
I have a server through HFBServers and it's great. It runs nice and smooth. Hackers DDoSing servers, doesn't mean that your server will always remain online regardless of how much protection it has. Server hosting is actually a bit harder than you would think it is. I use to host gameservers for people through a few different networks.
I worked for XNetWham and NeoElectro providing game servers. Even despite the insane amount of protection we had regarding DDoS attempts, it still happened. Now some may say it's because we're not smart enough or yadda yadda, but the truth of the matter is if someone is really that determined... they will find a way... and no server ever is protected from DDoS at all times. There are always counter-measures sure... but it's still not 100% foolproof.
HFBServers has done good so far, so honestly... I don't see how people are complaining about reasonable prices and good ping.
To the person in Alberta: Your connection I'm assuming is 50M down/ 10M up? If not... that could be a PART of the reason, not the full reason though. Higher bandwidth = lower ping times. Also depends on the amount of hops from where you're located to reach the server as well.
Do yourself a favor, and ping the servers and do a tracert ipaddress to figure out the routing.
Hope this helps.
Yeah that's pretty much exactly what my connection is, it's decent.
I have already pinged the server the only one that is consistently good is Chicago that sits around 50 at all times.
Still no update on being moved to Chicago yet by the way, they were suppose to get new servers in this week.
Since their Control Panel upgrade yesterday, I have been unable to access the CP or FTP of my server. I need to do a wipe and change mods. Opened two tickets, made posts in both FB and Twitter and these guys have not even bothered to send me a reply. My patience has worn thin and I am just about to switch providers. Their website claims "Our dedicated support staff will be here to assist you, day or night." That's a flat out lie; horrible response times. And it's a weekday, not a weekend or holiday.
Our control panel is very much up and has been since the upgrade yesterday, http://gamecp.hfbservers.com/ I currently see over 220 people actively using the control panel.
Well, I can't access my Control Panel. It would be nice if you guys responded to my ticket and helped me out since I am a paying customer of yours. Further, I don't understand why you would take the time to post in these forums when a customer, such as myself, has an open ticket and you can't even be bothered to reply or look into it.
Try force refreshing your browser http://www.refreshyourcache.com/en/cache/
I have. I have also tried from another location. It does not work. I have contacted my ISP and they have assured me it is not on my end. Please respond to my ticket.
Edited:
Lovely. I upgraded my slots to 100 yesterday and PAID for them. Instead of actually looking into my ticket I submitted yesterday, you lost or didnt even both to investigate whether I had paid but instead sent me this email and stopped my server (which somehow coincidentally now allows me to access my Control Panel. So, I have to ask, did you lose my invoice and decide to just block access to my Control Panel because you suspected I changed my slots without paying??? Wow, that's a very unethical thing to do if so).
The slots for server xxxxxx has been increased to 100. The maximum allowed slots is 50. Please investigate.
Your server has been stopped, and will continue to be stopped until you lower your slot count to the slots you have paid for.

Is this really how you do business?
HFB servers.....is....well...ok but i cant get Oxide to work on my server is there a tut on it? or a command to load the mod? or does HFB not have much support for Oxide right now? seeing as the version is 1.1 and i think 1.9 is the latest.
Looks like my issue has finally been resolved. However, I honestly don't think my ticket would have ever been answered had I not posted on these forums.
HFBServers, where is best place for Brazilian players? For a rust server
I bought a Rust server at HFBservers and it is now 27hours it is no longer available. (Status : Unknown in control panel)
I opened 4 tickets (# 382485, # 770176, # 611262, # 391114) and I have no constructive responses (just the copy \ paste everything)
Hello Guillaume,
Unfortunately the IP address that your service is hosted on has been Null routed due to a large DDoS attack. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this but it was necessary to null route the IP address to stop the attack from effecting other servers and clients in this data center. Your service will return to normal once the attack has either been mitigated/filtered or stopped. We thank you for your patience in this matter and rest assured we are working as hard as possible to restore service to this IP address.

This is a real steal, I do not recommend anyone this deplorable host
sorry for my bad English.
yea chicago hfb, server gets ping spikes has shut down a few times :( whats a good carrier? hfb is good with updates on rust tho.. but for 20$ and a 50 player game should not get lag spikes once every hour that last for about 20seconds or longer
This isn't really related to rust itself, however i did have my rust server from them for 3 months. After i quit rust and cancelled my server, i decided to rent my dayz server from them. I paid through paypal like always and got the receipt of payment. Even 3 hours after the payment it still said "unpaid" in services, so i opened a ticket askin what it's about. I received a short reply that he will "escalate" the ticket to a higher level in customer support and solve the issue as soon as possible. It has now been 3 days with no response, and i still haven't received the server, and the status is still unpaid on the website. No answers to tickets or any communication. Going to go for a refund soon, regret trying this.
OK. I see technical support from HFB Servers is here so... Can someone from HFB answer to my two tickets? 1st is sent 7.04.2014 (16 days ago) and 2nd 10.04.2014 (13 days ago)? I paid for 80 slots server when I asked for 60 slots and after 2 weeks nobody sent back my dollars and answered my tickets. Now server #1 is turned off because DDoS attack and looks like nobody wants to turn it on... I had to cancel service of that server but 2nd server is still working... still... Will I get my money back maybe when I'll send "ticket" over here...
