So sometime today when I was playing rust I got killed in like one shot in a relatively dark area almost immidiatly when he noticed me. (Not saying the scenario is impossible to pull of legitimately but the way it happened felt like aimbot so I went to his steam profile)

HOWEVER............. That isn't really what bothered me it was the fact that when I went to his steam profile it said that Valve's Anti Cheat system (VAC) had already banned him AND I was playing on a official server meaning that I should not have run into him in the first place. So just out of curiosity I've heard rumors but just want them to be confirmed.

    1. Is VAC even enabled

    2. If its enabled why is he able to play on an official server....... Cause it does say they are permanently banned from playing on all VAC protected servers.

VAC banned steam user here: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198023195301

If you look to the right you'll see that he has a total of 1 VAC bans on record

It says 1 of his games got a VAC ban. Doesn't mean rust has the ban on it. You can keep playing other games if you got a VAC ban on like cs or something.

it even clearly says its 256 days ago. And rust isn't out for that long

Here's your confusion: VAC is per-title. When it says "banned from all VAC-protected servers," that is for that game.

Someone who is VAC-banned in CS:GO and no other games is perfectly able to play on VAC-protected TF2 servers. Or DOD:S servers. Or Rust servers. But not CS:GO servers.

Steam does not display what games VAC bans have been issued for. It probably wasn't for Rust, as there hasn't been the first wave of bans yet.

I thought that if you used a hacked client on any Vac protected server you were banned from them all on all games though?

From Steam Support's page on VAC (down right now because of the shit they've been hit with, from a Google cache):
    VAC Enabled Games

    Valve games

The Valve Anti-Cheat system is enabled for servers displaying the Secured shield logo. Using custom skins, sounds or maps and playing multi-player mods which do not modify core .EXE and .DLL files will not result in a VAC ban

Cheating in one of the following Source games will result in a VAC ban for all games in the list and your items from Team Fortress 2 will be removed except any items that have been purchased:
    Counter-Strike: Source
    Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
    Day of Defeat: Source
    Team Fortress 2

Cheating in one of the following Gold Source games will result in a VAC ban for all games in the list:
    Counter-Strike
    Condition Zero
    Ricochet
    Day of Defeat
    Team Fortress Classic
    Half-Life: Deathmatch
    Deathmatch Classic

    Note:

Excluding the games listed above, VAC bans will only apply to the game the cheat was detected in. For example, a VAC ban in Modern Warfare 2 will not affect Modern Warfare 3.

Well thanks...... At first I thought the way valve was handling it was a bit stupid but after thinking about it for a few mins if you just ban them from all games on that account your only forcing them to make a new account then buy the next game they want to troll on......... Which in turn is just more data for steams servers to handle. So I guess for the moment ill just let my report sit in and hope that whenever the developers or whoever deals with this situation that these problems will be less frequent.

If you ban them from all games on that account, you also risk threats of lawsuits for disproportionate retribution. One wallhack in CS 1.6 shouldn't be enough to VAC-ban from the complete catalogue of VAC-using games, no matter what you might think about hacking in general. That's just overkill.

VAC also works in a watch-and-wait method, where it logs confirmed violations for weeks or possibly months at a time, and then hundreds or thousands are felled all at once, allowing them to maximize the number of cheaters they catch.

Also, VAC does not allow manual bans. The one time Valve has manually VAC-banned someone was to ban a guy who'd figured out how to exploit the golden wrench promotion and timed crafting a golden wrench. All other bans are automatic based on confirmed matches with hack signatures manually added to the VAC database by Valve staff.

Also, as far as your report goes, well, good luck. You should've read the sticky thread at the top of the forum, and posted in this thread dedicated to hacker reports instead of making a new thread. However, we all make mistakes; I'm not here to start a fight, so please don't.
