I saw Postal ban someone who posted some information about a clan on here that showed they have dipped a bit into hacking and other stuff. Postal banned him for that. I thought that was a bit harsh. I would have thought they would be gracious to see players do something that could help the community. Not punish them for it.

I've only just joined and after running a large community site myself for a few years I do feel the admin team are a bit quick on the ban hammer.

If the forums are being spammed with general posts of little information during chaotic times then why not get a chat room where they can get an instant answer from the community instead of banning them for what is a petty violation of your rules.

There are other options of dealing with the community than simply banning them and lol'ing at them for not reading the rules. Like anyone has time to read the rules on every site they use in full when they just want to announce or ask something.

The worst thing to come out of these silly incidents is the negativity the games get from it. Check steam forums and almost every post where someone asks if they should get Rust there is a line of people telling them what a bad company but great game this is.

If you really don't care then so be it, but be honest about it.

PS. I have not read the forum rules (and probably won't), if this justifies a ban then I will take it like a man.

Well did they use the hacking report thread?

This is a much bigger community than what you're probably used to, as we have over 40,000 active posters currently. Things get chaotic here if we don't enforce people to read the rules before they post.

If they want information on whats going on they can read the blog on the website or the trello or be courteous and read around the forums before posting. it's not like the ban is permanent, it's just meant to serve as a reminder to not be lazy or impatient and shit up the forums.

lol uh I don't care how lazy they are. They're making more work for us by refusing to read the rules. It's common decency to learn the way a community works before you start posting all over it and if they can't do that than the outcome shouldn't be a big surprise.

If people don't like being banned then they can read our forum rules and avoid it entirely.

Uhh ok? That's a rather shitty attitude to have but suit yourself. Just don't act surprise if you get banned at some point lol.

Late contribution but here goes :

postal is doing his job good, it's not his fault everyone that comes here decides that they're so special and unique that every last thought they get deserves it's own thread. Plus none of them usually read the general forum rules and stickies. So yeh, I approve of postal as our very own Rust mod.

Bans for people ignorantly breaking the rules in good faith make you look like a dick. Why would you punish people like this instead of merely closing the thread and editing the first post "HACKER COMPLAINTS GO IN HACKER THREAD"? A ban is an inappropriate response.

When it says "USER IS BANNED" in red text, it is not clear to anybody that it is a temporary ban. Maybe you can update the text to say "USER SUSPENDED FOR X HOURS" instead, in addition to not banning people who are trying to help.

Click this thing on any user, it'll tell you exactly what's up:

Another reason people should learn how Facepunch works; these problems have been solved, you're just not looking for the solutions.

ignorantly breaking the rules?? lol that's pretty silly. They just have to read the rules before they post and they won't 'accidently' break a rule. They're straight up told they'll get banned for 3 days if they break one of the listed rules. All they have to do is not break them.

Well maybe if they'd read my rules sticky they'd learn how to check ban lengths for themselves.
