    Hello Rust Community,

i want to introduce you to this little webservice that I developed in the last couple days.
It's called Rust Map Marks it let you mark locations on the map, leave notes and share these with other people.

    How does this work?

It's simple. You create a personal map and get a link to your map. This link can be shared with your teammates or someone else. You choose who will be able to edit your map if you give away your password. To edit the map you leave notes on certain locations and choose an icon which will be displayed when somebody views your map. A more detailed explanation on how to use this tool can you find in the "how to use" section of the website.

    Why do I need this?

One of the key elements in Rust is to hide your base and locate threats to you and your team to survive. In order to survive you have to know where is something useful or something dangerous to you. With Rust Map Marks you can collect this information on a central place and save them for you and your team. These information could be really hot. Imagine you discover a big house with low defenses where to expect a lot of loot. You could trade these information to bandits or other players or just inform your teammates about it.

I hope you check it out under:

    Website:
    http://rustmapmarks.com

    Example:
    http://rustmapmarks.com/maps.php?h=UPxTghv0iDnqs
    PW: rust123

If you login with the password you can place marks where you want.

    Beta

Rust Map Marks is definitely unfinished so I hope to hear some feedback from you.

Credits to Alpha Cheeto for creating the map that is currently used!

Fantastic idea! Really handy for times where some of our group aren't online and we have to move our base or something... Kind of like right now where the French guys we've been fighting for a few days managed to replace all of our doors whilst we were away.

This is pretty damn cool... wish we could zoom in on the map and get greater detail, of course that would require a much larger, more precise map but it would be awesome.
    This is a win.

This is beyond brilliant, If I could pat you on the back IRL, I most certainly would. Just add a map zooming capability and it would be even better

Useful, but it hides the land features which could help identify your location. I can't see shit below some markers.

    Hello,

    Great work already !

One feature that could be nice is to ask password before being able to see the map (as an option for security concerns)

Another (but maybe harder to implement) would be some sort of directionnal panorama/landmark function that we could link to ingame screenshot (even if we have to host them on another website) so it could help our newbies to find the main camp.

Sure, he knows exactly what server you are on.. Because there is only one server.

Not sure if that was a joke or not.. coz it wasn't funny.

OP, you should put a donation button on that page to help offset the cost, I'm sure a few people would chip in (myself included.)

    Hello,

thanks for your feedback. I see a lot of you want a zoom function. I try to impelent this feature in the future. For now i added some new icons (some suggestions for new one?) and fixed some little bugs and made some changes. Now the note field is optional because i saw a lot of marks where it wasn't really used.

Have a nice new year, you will read me in the future. :)

I Know this sounds a bit like cheating but, you could create a application which works like a minimap the only things the user have to do for it is to put rust in windowed mode.

If you just create a small which you can also adjust, then just give the application the abbility to be in the foreground( topmost window).
You could also manage a system which attach the window automaticly in the corner of the game left right.

Since the line drawing is already suggested, may I suggest the icons become smaller when zoomed in? Or smaller in general. It would seem some of the icons block the landmark I'm trying to point out, which is obviously avoidable if I place it right next to it, but I would suggest making them smaller as you zoom in, or smaller in general as a quick fix. But thanks so much for making my life easier. I think I will find myself saying "just look at my map" a lot more than asking what the closet land mark if to give directions from.

This is unbelievably useful, I am honestly surprised no one has come up with something like this earlier. This solves the map issue, and the constant need to direct people to you.

I'm sure you used the older map because it displays a larger area, but maybe give the option between that one and Brandy_92's? Seeing the rocks can be useful, even if it shows a bit less of the map.

Not exactly. It gives a map that can be marked, they still have to figure out the path, and if they're new its likely they don't know where they're standing in relation to the marker for your base. :P

Nah, I got a really small group of people that I play on and off with, this has made things significantly easier for me, since most of us know how to navigate the map, sticking a pinpoint down that they can physically see REALLY speeds things up.

Not bad, a LOT better then using those REALLY dumb names someone set for a map on the wiki, I will be damned if I tell someone to come to ballzack mountain.

It would be nice for devs to allow a vote on what certain areas of the map should be called, to make it official. It would REALLY make navigation easier since then everyone calls it by the same name and knows what it is, rather than questioning it when that person is using a map with different zone names. Personally, I would call them like what they are, north forest, west ocean, etc. But I agree, a lot of the names are really kinda dumb

Yes, the devs could come up with some official names for the general areas... I tend to use the names from Kronix's map since it's the only one with distinct names.

That's why I like Kronix's map, each town has it's own name.
