I personally think they need to add one cos the holo sight is pretty terrible the sway doesn't bother me in the slightest but i would atleast like to some sort of proper scope x8 maybe
and i have no problem with being shot at from long range with a sniper i think it would add a good factor to this game

I think a scope that fit a certain weapon type would be awesome personally. Snipers in the mountains would be legit and freaky knowing someone could be watching you. An 8x scope would be pretty sweet in my opinion, granted it would only fit on certain styles of weapons.

right now this game doesn't need a "Sniper Rifle". Maybe later, I wouldn't rule it out. But please, dear lord. Not now.

It already has a "Sniper Rifle" if you class the bolt action as one, but it's sort of terrible at the moment because of the holo sight. i'd like to see a proper scope added in the future

The only thing that "Saves" the bolt action from being a sniper rifle is that it's wavy as hell. Shoot I'd love to see them include how crouching steadies your aim. But we leave that "for the future".

Snipers will be a stupid factor because people will just camp on their 10x10 house, shooting poor innocents that have just spawned. It will be days all over again!

An ACOG would do it justice. People don't understand that a scope is what makes the gun useful. What's the point of adding it if garry didn't plan on giving it any use? Its intent is to camp.

Sniper rifle scope is a must have in my opinion but also a tripod. They are testing weapon sway and recover after firing. Thisll be cool if they added these things. The only thing I ask is they add a lay down function instead of just crouching. Shit would be so cash

Or they'll be up in the rocks, watching the road. You get shot at while harvesting, run for cover and clear the area. The resources are going to get spread out more, the usable map is getting expanded....this game needs longer ranged combat to provide more options of what players want to do in a map this size.

This is why we need forest areas and tall grass areas(Forest as in dense with close and tall trees).

i can see a scope being added if it costs alot of low quality metal, and its a shitty 2d render scope that doesn't go that far, so more like an acog scope.

8x is FAR too much for this game, at most I would like to see a 2x or 4x attachment for the guns but nothing more or else the game would degenerate into packs of snipers poppin' n00bs from nowhere. I am all for getting kitted out and tormenting people but adding "sniper" rifles into the game would make things too easy.

Also to be more in keeping with the feel of Rust any scopes should be extremely rudimentary, half a broken pair of binoculars taped to the rifle or two rough lenses attached to an old bit of pipe. There wouldn't just be scopes sitting around waiting to be attached to our weapons but I like the idea of fashioning ones ourselves out of old scrap.

Have a home made reflex scope? You get a piece of glass and a marker and you paint a small dot in the centre of the glass then you fix it to your scrap gun with duct tape.
However
Snipers as of right now. Hell no! In the future? Definitely! The servers are laggy, the players are laggy and resources need to be spread out more so you don't have 1 area of value that a 5 man gang dominates and halts progress for the rest of the players on the server.

The main problem with the grass that is in the game at the moment is that most people turn it off for a performance boost and as such I have to turn it off so I'm not trying to hide in cover that isn't there for everyone. I hope as this game becomes more optimised that things like the grass will be forced on and not be able to be turned off so we can have a bit more cover.

I think the range of the weapons is enough as it is. It's hard enough to flee a well armed player when they start shooting you while you have a rock.

Im pretty optimistic that there will be some "sight?" attachment sooner or later for the scope. I wouldn't prefer a hyper 12x zoom of doom. Maybe a 4x Acog, that sounds fair to me.

How about they just add an auto-aiming scope in the game? They can get their inspiration from Tracking Point.

Yes!!! Even though the KoS is out of control as it is and a8x scope would make it 100x worse but it would be nice to have that guy in the mountains watching your back as you loot.

A scope would be fine, just keep the range of the gun the same
Which would do nothing besides improve visibility, so yes a zoomed scope for the bolt action would be fine

If they add a scope, the bolt action CANNOT be a 1 hit kill, because atm it takes 1 nice placed shot either to the head or to the upper chest to kill someone who has no armour

Here's the problem with a scope:
The game runs hit-scan, which means if your crosshair is placed on the target when you click, you will hit. This makes hitting someone incredibly easy when compared to games with bullet physics / weapon inaccuracy. To compensate for this, targets are usually small except at close range, recoil is very large, and the guns have a large sway.
If a scope was added, this would take away the first compensation mechanic, making the targets relatively big compared to your crosshair. This would create a gameplay element that would be imbalanced with respect to the other guns.

Change the ammo for sniper rifle to a different caliber say 50? At some point I would like to see more than a workbench, Id like to see some equipment that requires a power source. Mill/Lathe/call it an advanced workstation. Refined gun powder/black powder. Glass Resources, Untreated metal decay. weapon jamming. I agree though right now snipers would be op, especially if the ammo is so common. 50 cal should stack in 10s and cost as much as a stack of 9s " I think thats being light too"

I Agree. As long at there's something that will balance out the effects of adding a scope like suggested above, Id want a scope added.

What bothers me the most is that the M4 with HOLO zooms in more than a bolt with HOLO.
Would love if it could be the other way around to have the bolt as a "sniper".

I don't think a weak scope would be a bad thing 2X, 4X max, just very rare and make one of the pieces required uncraftable (binocular lens) so people don't have scopes on every weapon they own.
I think all the weapon mods need to be much much harder to craft.

My opinion? No scopes on any guns. Instead, have a scoped crossbow that fires a lethal one shot bolt that must travel distance before it hits anything, unlike an ingame bullet.

If they add a scope, it needs to be really, really janky.
Like the kind sea captains used, where shits kinda blurry and the zoom is like, 2x.

If not a scope for that gun then at least some binoculars. I would really like to be able to get an overview of the areas and see something up close without always having to get too close. It would be a must have of any aspiring scout.

Generally speaking, for all the kids who say OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOO..... They dont want to see a scope because of their already stupid fear of dying. Welcome to Rust guys... its a SURVIVAL GAME... you're supposed to FEAR DEATH.
Since I can literally go to the store and pick up a Nikon Scope or any other brand of scope to attach to a .223 rifle (Remington and sometimes an AR-15 depending upon the rail mount you have), this isn't a bad idea at all.

If you want to put a scope on it make the dmg half or more what it is now.
Getting picked off from years away is NO ONE's idea of fun. It's annoying and gives the feeling of No chance.
It would make all other weapons worthless in comparison as most engagements happen in pretty open areas. It's bad enough as it is with no scope / the holo. I can get head shots no problem and thats insta death.
It's not about dying, It's about dying without an opportunity to fight back. Instant death anything in any game does nothing but create frustration

Play DayZ. You can get picked from years away and it's still fun. If you quit over getting picked off you're either A) the laziest person alive because you feel justified in quitting over one death. Sorry buttercup, put on your farmin pants and get back to it.
B) You're a terrible player and you feel entitled to survive 24/7 in a SURVIVAL GAME
C) You think the game will turn into a DayZ hillsnipe fest (which because of how easy it is to get the bolt action right now, it could turn into that... so when they reduce the potential of finding them to nearly impossible like they're going to do with all military weapons, it'll work better)
D) There's an issue within you in which you feel you shouldn't fear losing your items... Well, it's a survival game, AGAIN.
I hate to break this to you but honestly, I hillside snipe in DayZ all the time. It's fun. I win some, I lose some. But the nature of it is that you're not invulnerable. So as it stands, I'd like to see a scope since it would give it a more fluid feel for scouting areas as well. Just because you have a scope on it, doesn't mean it'll be accurate.

Hunt3r, there's a significant number of people who don't find being picked off from a mile away fun.
I'm one of them. I found DayZ to be absurdly boring and one sided. You basically needed luck to get on a server that didn't have a sniper camping every relatively decent loot spot.
You can see it on streams, too. Almost every DayZ stream is, "haha check it Imma pop this kid trying to find some gear from this mountain". Yeah, that's just, freakin amazing.
Most people who know me think I'm a masochist and I didn't find DayZ fun at all.
Not to mention the world of headaches that occur in a game like that when ESP cheats are so easy to download even Lil Jimmy is doing it.
