Ok, so console commands don't have to be caps locked, you just have to enter them twice or sometimes three times before it "takes"

That's really weird, I've not experienced that. Sometimes I might not be synched to the server perfectly and when I press 1 for a pick axe or something it doesn't immediately pop up, but after I sync back up it comes out. Sorry I don't have anything for you.

Just to help the mac users, the -force-features-9-3 etc.. are targeted at DirectX your version of the game will more thna likely be using OpenGL.

    Potential issues with OSX:
1: Networking, try turning OSX firewall off, it never has been very UDP friendly.

2: open rust.app and go edit the config.cfg file add
    grass.on false
    terrain.aa 0
    terrain.idleinterval 0

    3: try setting rust.app to 0777

    4: turn off window mode.

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro, the model with dedicated graphics (GT 750M), 16GB ram.

I have the same problem as discussed in the OP - the game hangs on the loading screen and then stops responding. Have to force quit at that point. While I bought the game now more to show support than anything else, I really hope OSX (and Linux) stability is of top priority because I wouldn't mind playing around with the game as soon as possible.

Try retarting your machine. I have a Summer 2012 MBP with only 4GB Ram and 512MB video and I couldn't get it to work. Once I restarted and used Fastest setting on Windowed mode, it's worked like a charm ever since. I think the Window mode is the big thing. And I didn't have to mess with entering any of these commands either.

Having the same issues changed to windowed and low res, dropped a couple of graphics specs levels. Still loads only to 'loading GUI' or awaiting character, however can hear background noise of birds when this happens. Left it for 2 hours and can still hear birds but no luck. Game looks amazing but really isn't mac ready.

    Edited:

It worked for the first time today, I played at night on an emptying server, but froze when I took out my torch...

While in the inventory (tab), mouse movement seems to be logged then applied after the menu is closed and the mouse is moved again. To put it another way, if I open my inventory, move the mouse around, then close my inventory, the next time I move my mouse I'll snap to a different and seemingly random direction. This happens in windowed mode or full-screen. Not an urgent problem but I imagine it's something the developers would like to look into at some point if it's a problem for others.

Since the last update im only able to connect sometimes and even if i do get into a server it will randomly freeze at some point, which is not good in rust ;)

This is not an ideal solution but until it is fixed i have been playing in bootcamp on windows 8. It works perfectly for me.

I can confirm the direction changing when you tab out of inventory, though esc seems to do the same for me without the direction change.

Make sure to hit apply when changing the res specs down in rust options. It doesn't save otherwise

I'm using a hackintosh I built so I don't expect everything to run perfectly, nor would I request it to. My only concern, is that I have to enter rcon commands twice quite often. I'm not sure if it's the window size since I scale down or if it's simply a mac thing. It's just awkward :<

VMware isn't going to work for video games. It's computer emulation. Parallels would be the same. Boot camp should work great though because it runs the OS natively on the hardware. Boot Camp a Windows partition. That is the best temporary fix until Garry gets it going.

iMacs generally run mobile graphics chipsets which always have me nervous when it comes to gaming purposes. I'd avoid it if I can. In the Mac realm, Mac Pros with good graphics cards is the best way to go.

    Newbie saying hi!

Playing this on a 2009 iMac, I haven't hade time to tweak my settings so I played with some lagg but it was fun. I'm gonna turn of the grass I guess that will help run it smoother.

Gonna keep an eye on this thread,

    Enjoy!

I use the Left "shift" + "ctrl" + "v" to paste into "Rust console" - hope it works for you.

Here's another issue on Macintosh that is not on PC:

The MP5 on Mac, the butt-stock gets in your field of view when aiming down the sights. Apparently it happens on Linux as well.

    Edited:

Oh, and another one: You cannot command+V to paste, or command+C to copy in the RUST Console. I tried to connect to one of the French servers that are supposedly not being attacked, and I get no error and nothing happens.

    - Mouse Cursor is not accurate in windowed mode
If you resize the window, just pull it down a little bit and then take it back out, this fixes itself.

First off to copy and paste you just need to press "control + c" or "control + v" (@prebh left shift is not necessary)

Hey guys glad this post is here I really hope we can help make this game run better on the mac. I just purchased this game and I'm upset it doesn't run well on the mac side. Below are my Retina MBP specs.

    Retina, Mid 2012
    Software - OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
    Processor - 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 (4 Cores)
    Memory - 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Storage - 500GB APPLE SSD SM512E

I was trying to play the game and was having issues with it freezing shortly after joining a few different servers. I was trying a few different resolutions and was running the game at "Good" performance. This was before i stumbled upon this post so i did not setup any custom config options. The game would always get past the loading screen and i could walk around for a bit but then it would just stop responding and require a force quit. 😡

Quick Mac Tip: Try pressing "Command + Option + Escape" and see what happens, you can thank me later 😺

After reading everyones responses I am now going to try running the game few custom config options (some of which are missing from the first post).

    - Graphics Quality is set to Fastest
    - Resolution is 1440 x 900
    - Windowed is unchecked (running full screen)
    - Inside the game under options I have changed the "Render Quality" down to 0
    - Used the command "grass.on FALSE" in the console, had to enter it a few times until i got a conformation (so weird you have to do that)

I have been playing for about an hour now and have had no freezing issues tho the game is running slow and laggy. I know my computer is capable of running graphically demanding games so I know Rust shouldn't be running like this, but it's in Alpha and I'm a Mac gamer so....I'm used to it 🍎💻👾😎

When I open my console with F1 and i type in a command like grass.on FALSE or net.connect it doesn't seem to work. When i do net.connect it just writes it in green on the console. Is this a problem on all macs or is it just mine?

    Thanks

Reconnect doesn't work for me to, the grass thing you just have to enter 2 or 3 times to make it work.

Hey everyone, I just bought Rust because it looked awesome. I haven't been able to play though because it freezes after the settings screen.

I have tried changing the launch options to add -nolog -force-feature-level-9-3 and the grass setting, both together and independently of each other. I have tried all the different resolutions, tried clicking "windowed" and not windowed. I have done "fastest" to "Fantastic". I have used the default game and the expirmental all with the different launch options.

I am on a new MBP retina 2.3Ghz i7 with 16GB RAM. Maybe someone else has some ideas.

    Edited:

NVM restarting the computer fixed it plus I needed the above commands.

I play on my MacBook Pro laptop and it runs smoothly. The main thing I have to do (as with every game I play on mac)is turn the graphics settings to the lowest possible. Kind of the trade off when you play on mac.
