All the people paying for the servers would get mad because of losing their ability to do so, and all the regulars would get mad because their server is gone. I'm tellin ya folks, wait until after the Steam launch. Please. A few weeks after that if you still think we have too many servers I might agree but launching on Steam, then having the game constantly for sale is really gonna change the player base in drastic ways. Tons of mainstream PC players haven't even heard of this game yet...

When the steam version is released, then there will be 10-20 populated servers? Doesn't mean that this problem is fixed. The problem is that there is no community anymore, it's boring to play on any server because if things go south I have another server with a bunch of stuff on to play with. I play on multiple different servers a day and never get to get as set up as I used to get. You never get to know people that live near you, you never get to truly hate your enemies. There's no way the experiences I had when there was only one server can possible happen with private servers scattered everywhere.

It's just a pain in the ass overall. Why are people defending it so much, when the game opens up on steam people will want more servers and i doubt any major improvement will be seen.

But in my opinion retarded admins ruined the privat server idea. Its just like in any other game that got a lot/easy Admin Stuff to do to boost your our your friends play. But to be fair i saw Servers with 10-15 People were the Admins acted really good and tryed all they could to keep dupers/exploiters and other griefing shit out of the server. Too bad this servers are underpopulated most of the time :/

This game used to be so much more. so brilliantly more.
I remember my first days of rust. jeez it was hard, i was scared of my own shadow for the first day or two when i played this game.
Within my first few hours of playing i quickly learned that theese people are NOT my friends, but my foes. i must fight for what i want. i cannot trade as i was thinking at first.
I learned to become paranoid, never trust anyone, use the dark as my ally, and if it was me or the other naked guy, it had to be myself!, i had to backstab him that time.. i had to.. or i would starve!..
this game was so great. you never knew when danger was just around the corner!.
Now... i dont even bother.. i played for about 5 days on the private servers.. on about 4 different ones.. now i havent set foot in the world of rust in a few weeks.. its just not the same..
The public servers are not as crowded. the private servers have 10-30 regular players. and usually some admin with the biggest fucking metal base ever. giving soooo much stuff to his friends.. flying around.. blowing my house up... shooting at me... in godmode... well thats not the rust experience!.
PRIVATE SERVERS RUINED RUST! - I hope to someday return, as i hope rust does.

Or also make that players can connect on private server by invitation (white list). So new players wont connect to server where admin abusing rights to shit on new players. In this case players wont be "surprised" by this stupid feature and will like the game instead of deleting it...

In my personal opinion, i think there should be "private" servers, like in gmod, some servers are bad, but some servers are actually good. It would be a waste if there were only offical servers, its also fun to host a community server. (I don't have any rust server) and i hope garry will release the dedicated server tool soon, so i can start myself a server.

Why are there always those people who want to force their way of playing onto other people in these kind of games? (Dayz, WarZ, Nether, now Rust)
I understand those of you who want official servers back, but why REMOVE private ones?
To force people to play on big crowded servers? To have a lot of easy preys?
Not everyone want official/crowded servers ONLY.
I get that you want crowded servers with no admin abuse, but that could be fixed by either finding a server without admin abuse and get people to join it or adding official servers back.
You don't really have to remove the private servers in the process of adding official servers back, it would not make any sense in doing that, really pointless.

I'm guessing you never played when it was just official servers only. It was much more fun. Crowding could easily be fixed (and will) by opening the rest of the map. They have to remove them.

Once helis comes out the whole map will surely open up.
Better and well geared players would fly somewhere distant and enclosed to build their new base away from prying eyes.

I have to agree with the masses here, Private Server are ruining the game. There is simply WAY TOO MANY of them.
When renting a server became an option, we were told they were going to be in a very limited number. Which would of been fine if that was true. My friends and I all chipped in and got a server, because we actually thought they were gonna be limited. But alas they weren't and now we have an over saturation of servers and not enough players playing to fill more then a couple of them.
This game was great when there was only a few official servers. You knew who people were, where groups built, who to mess with, who not to mess with, what areas were safe to go to at what times. You could build actual rivalries with other groups.
If server rental would of truly stayed limited and only a dozen or two dozen servers total been made available, that would of been fine. Sure there would of been a few with lower population and I realize some people like that, but for the most part, majority of the servers would of remained at a size that was always playable.
The way the game stands now, it's not nearly as fun as it use to be. You struggle to find a server worth staying on or finding one that can actually keep a steady population.

too many private servers!! i used to play rust when there were only 3 or 4. i dont care if there are some private servers as long as there are at least some official ones (and those need to be marked as official)
if there is a tab for privat and a tab for official servers in the server list menu... i am ok with that.
but at the moment i have to vote for private servers to be removed. i tried 10 servers and on everyone i noticed admin abuse or some little kiddo admin who wasnt capable of leading a server. i dont mind if there are only 10 servers with 5k slots each as long as they are official... thats my opinion

Not everyone has the same opinion. Just because you, mr iwantwhateverithinkisbest, like official server, doesn't means that EVERYONE likes it.
There are official servers, go play on them.

When Rust server files are released, there'll be more servers, and better servers.
There are abusive admins, yes, but who's keeping you there? You're free to join other servers.

The current amount of servers is not even a problem. Stop trying to make it into a problem.
I don't mind them adding official servers again but there's absolutely no sense in removing the private ones.
They are not ruining the game what so ever.
If you wanna play high populated servers just join the one with most players on and stick to playing that one, then invite everyone else who whine about "hurr private servers ruin dis gaem" and the problem is solved.
If people truly would want to play high pop servers they would not be as spread out as they are.
Also, the amount of servers compared to copies of the game sold is low - medium.
Which mean not enough people are playing the game currently.
So the real problem is either in the game, gameplay or the community/the players (since most people are not playing it), not in the amount of servers, as people do not stop playing a game because there are "too many servers".
If you are saying the private servers are not supporting enough players at the same time, then having official servers that does support a good amount of players at the same time would fix this.
So no, private servers are not ruining anything.
Not enough people playing the game might ruin the experience for some people, but removing most of the servers to force everyone to play together would not fix anything, it would only hurt everyone else.
And in this case, keeping it the way it is, is hurting less people than forcing everyone to play together.
If you would force everyone to play on the same servers then those who wish to play on lower pop servers would just quit the game, while right now those who want high pop servers can still join the servers with most players on.
It might not be "enough" players for some but the amount wont increase by not playing the game.

I usually don't post much, but this time I must say that I agree that the private servers are killing the game. It's the reason why i'm playing this game less than in the beginning.
With the addition of private servers, you have no longer the feeling that you can make an impact in the game, because you know there are 100 other servers out there. Therefore your achievements are less valueable and that feeling makes the game less enjoyable to me.

Also when the steamrelease is there are many many players that joining the game so the privatservers get fast full.

Really funny. How about you just simply favorite the official and only the good private servers? Or just you know... don't just private servers. Could it simply be that the community is bad?
Should, however, be a filter for official and unofficial. As well as a filter for traffic (more players staying for longer increases this), the higher the servers traffic the higher it is on the list.
I've done dedicated servers in gmod for years and can easily say there are tons of reasons to have private servers.
Fort wars is way easier in private, as well as events
in your community, you filter who stays and who does, the rules, and everything else.
As a player, you get to find servers that are far better than official because the filter out pricks. You can also better find a community that you can enjoy this way. Essential, less potential assholes, unless it's run by assholes.

Thank you someone who see's what i see, i just hope they add Official Servers for mostly every region, and make Default server list Official servers. So much abusing / spawning / banning on private servers. Would be nice to put the trusted servers 1st, like a vote system like a +1 and -1 next to the fav button.

I have no Problems with the private Server.
Yes,their are too much of them.But some of this Server are very good.No Admin Abusing or Else.
My Problem is this fucking Namechange.I have 20 Server in my History and their are 5 of them which change their Names same as i change my pants.
I mean,wtf?
If they still get the private Server their,make a limit and as i say,make that the Server name wont get changed.Maybe a Server Description which is changeable.But if someone like me has 20 Server and more in the history (everybody jumped around the Server to find a good one) and they all changed their names every second day,i will log on to every fucking server to check which one was my last.
An Option to clear the History or the point of ,,Favourite,, which is included but useless would be nice.
BTT.As some ppl said here.If an Server has no player,after a while it would closed.I cant believe that some ppl has the money to pay for a server where is no player.
Their is an Idea for a Countdown.
Maybe ,,Every Server has a joining rate of 10 player in a week or it will be closed,, or else

What will adding more official servers help with? It will only make the problem worse by spreading the population even thinner. Rust without meeting a player every two minutes is just an easy game. You can now set up a huge base without getting raided within one day, or getting killed - Annoying, sure, but it was fun getting revenge. Now, if you're a bandit on a server, the player will just change servers - Something that you could do less in the past as bandits were on every server you moved to.
If you want private servers, they should be less popular by instead of listing them, forcing you to post the IP of it. That way, servers must post on the forums, a place on which not every rust player visits.
