Fantastic idea!, Love It, As i would be a "Nice Guy" In game, i would only defend my self in need be.

Don't see the point of being on the Offensive.

Great idea though, good way to cross reference people your unsure about.

Good idea, but i think it will remove the pressure when you will meet players. I like the idea of never know what other guy will do, the fact to be always on guard, to never trust anyone.
Yes, maybe you could add a list when you mark someone, like "kill on sight".

Is there a way to someone create something like this for cheaters ? I have seen a thread, but i don't believe if it is useful

I like this idea, it doesn't take away a lot from the game, because there's only displayed a top 20 people. Those people typically earn a name if they are that evil/good so people would generally know that anyway.

    Edited:

After a bit of work, added a few new things:

    1. XML files are now recached every 5 minutes through a cronjob. This means that no one should receive a long load time (it was originally every hour when someone visited the site, so one user every so often would get a load time of 10-20 seconds. Not optimal or wanted).
    2. The same cron grabs and updates Steam usernames every 5 minutes and adds them to the database, which leads me to number 3....
    3. You can now search for players names instead of their Steam profile URLs.

In my original code before I had released the site, you actually entered the Steam username, ID, and profile manually. I decided however that would mean that their names could change or be mistyped. Not exactly what I wanted. I mean, if say james changed his name to john, people would search for john and find no results.

So I decided just to do all queries by the Steam profile URL. But that is a bit more difficult and time consuming. With my addition of HAVING to cache XML files, I just decided to, at the same time, add their name to the database. Seems to be working fine.

You should also be able to search for fragments of names, like this: http://rustreputation.com/lookup.php?search=insane
That returns InsaneParrot. Meaning that you won't have to type long names, etc.

Lastly, to keep load times smooth, I decided not to have single files cached when a new user is submitted. Instead, their file will be cached when the cron runs. This means that you won't be able to search for their names right after you submit. It might take up to 5 minutes.

Oh, and I will need to fix searching by Steam URL. Right now, only perma links are searchable.

If you have any other ideas to be added, feel free to let me know!
Also, good update. When I first saw the site and it requiring you to use steamurls, it put me off a little, but now for everyone it should be even easier to use.

Yeah, it was a bit hard to find people. Quite a bit easier now :)

It might take some time for that to happen. Hoping to get it to be more popular.

It's a nice concept but it's just hassel. if I come face to face with somebody, surely if they turn out to be unfriendly, in the time it takes to load this page I'd have already been killed?

Great to see a site like this! Already had a couple people give me some votes that were very well deserved! :P

Integrate the Steam API so that votes can't be faked.

Not a bad idea, definitely a better way of handling it. I actually planned to use it so you could sign into the website for something in the future, not really sure what. But this will be even better.

Looks fine on IE 9 now. Not sure about older versions.
Tomorrow, I'll be adding Steam authentication instead of the less useful IP/captcha method of preventing multiple votes.

i hate this. takes out a lot of tension u get from the game, also it is degrading to those being downvoted. if u want to know whos bad, go play dayz for dem bandit outfits. this is plain destruction of rusts gameplay
I think it adds a very interesting end game. Many people will be striving to be the most friendly, and others the least friendly.

I think you should get rid of 'friendly' and 'unfriendly' its really quite blunt and people almost get offended by it.

Instead i propose you give maybe 4 vote options. Along the lines of..

Dangerous - practically replaces 'unfriendly' but for the people who love to play like tyrants this gives them an ego boost as well as keeping people well aware that he is indeed dangerous and a high chance of KOS.

Innocent - practically replaces 'friendly'. Lets people know you're innocent and don't get involve in KOS or raiding etc..

Skilled - Player is good at a certain something, that could be hunting/building/raiding/helping. This is a vote that is wanted by the player for being good.

possibly the last one to be something like Troll - which lets people know you're up for a laugh at others expenses and you enjoy singing down the mic or generally making someones day an inconvenience in a violent or non-violent way.

Not to sure about the 'Troll' one but i'm sure you guys could come up with something better.

This is just my opinion. I don't disagree with the current options i think they're great placeholders and good job, inspiring to see you're making this a project, good luck with it.

Not a bad idea. Like I say, I'm still working the site in general out. Today/tomorrow I'll have Steam sign-in done. After that, I will probably wipe all ratings for now (since a few might be a bit "cheaty"), and will implement your idea!

How about make a script for Rust so when ever someone scans (places crosshair) another player, it checks the player's name and compares it with your database and it shows friendly (in Green) or Bandit (in Red) according to that person's status. Should be fairly simple :)
