Made a small site today where you can let everyone know which players are friendly and who isn't. A bit of an experiment for now.

All you have to do is take the persons Steam profile URL (perma link or custom URL) and chose whether they are friendly or not. Everything else will be filled in via Steam's servers.

    http://rustreputation.com/

Let me know if you find any issues. I coded this very quickly, so there might be a few issues. Thanks!

I'm friendly, and will always help out a person just starting out if I have the extra stuff. Also I have yet in my 25 hours of playing initiated violence, only have I attempted to protect myself after being attacked.

Man, I hate how every person I come across wants to murder me. I am always friendly and hang out near the hanger or recently the gas tanks to farm items to get free m4s a and other cool stuff, and everywhere I go there are people trying to kill me. I hope this helps people know I am friendly.

Site was loading VERY slowly because it was requesting the information ever time the page loaded. It now caches the XML files every hour to prevent this from happening!

Good idea, and it has been implemented. Prevents things like the 3 friendly but 15 unfriendly vote users from being at the top of the list for friendly users. Thanks!

Any other ideas/issues, let me know!

Needs more work and also, are you 100% sure this cannot be abused to ruin someones rep if indeed it became a popular site? Seems like it'd be quite easy to manipulate.

Also, not sure if you noticed but there is a lot of "friendly" people in the top 20 unfriendly list. Need to fix that.

edit: alsox2 would be cool to see another column for if the player has any current vac bans on record as well.

People also need to police themselves and not give someone a negative vote because they were killed by said person. An example would be, Kerp killed me the other day on the server and made a really snide comment afterwards and it pissed me off severely. To top it off I had no given him cause to kill me other than being in the area, but it doesn't mean I should attempt to ruin his reputation because he did something I didn't agree with.

Added a few new features and fixes:
Fixed unfriendly list to be like the friendly list
Added a rate button on peoples "profiles"

Obviously with the new rate button, it can easily be manipulated to spam and such, and it has already been abused so once (literally 5 minutes after I began work on it...). I'm working on blacklisting IPs that make these kinds of attempts to stop it early.

I'm working on ways of preventing it now. How would you think it could be manipulated?
What I have done so far:
    1. Only one vote per person per profile
    2. Captchas (Obviously to prevent just spam, doesn't really prevent abuse)
Now I am also working on blacklisting IPs that just go through the list and give people reputation (Seen it once already).
Possibly a way of detecting a "ganging up" on someones profile, or just using proxies/VPN's to bypass the limit. Maybe 2 votes per minute per user?
Any other ideas that you have on preventing it would be great!

This is true, and unfortunately something that will come from the community of any game. It is my hope that people will be more understanding than that. Nevertheless, it might lead to the site becoming more based on skill and attitude rather than just "friendliness". We will see...

If anyone has any idea for the project, feel free to let me know! It is greatly appreciated.

Went ahead and added a captcha for voting from the profile page. Reset a few peoples ratings because "they" (not sure who else would be doing it) decided to be silly and give themselves quite a bit of friendly votes. Anyway, that is taken care of.

Actually I only voted for myself once, and my buddy Poseidon once, I than proceeded to send the link for both of us to all my allies and friends who play rust. So it would be nice if you set it back to where it was instead of setting us to -20 for no reason.

A comments section would be nice like: "Why is this dude unfriendly?" (ie He KOS'd me / He spammed me over voip / I highly suspect this player of hacking) or "Why is this dude cool?" (ie We traded technology and it was nice / Dude gave me chicken, F-yeah! / We live close to eachother and share mats / We're allies) and you can choose to make comment anon or with your actual steam profile (because you're a BAMF and your word is accredited to awesomeness.)

Look at what Amazon or Ebay does for product reviews or seller ratings, therein you can find many ways to improve your system.

That's pretty bull if you ask me. If the mods of this reputation website are going to alter the rep points at their discretion that pretty much debunks the whole purpose. If you want to prevent wreckless upvotes from the friends of rust players make them verify their steam account (and make sure it has rust, does steam API let you go that far?) before letting them vote.

I did friendly vote prsn because I had no relationship with him until playing Rust and has been very inviting with regards to sharing his team speak, mats, and technology.

Also: All of my unfriendly votes have turned into friendly votes. How is it possible that anyone on this service at all has unfriendly votes.

    Can you please address this?

So I guess I am not even going to be reset to 0, since currently it's not possible to give unfriendly votes but yet me and poseidon were set to -20 after all our friends voted for us, seems like a fair and unbiased system to me!

    66.45.252.90 - Interserver

I took the liberty of checking many of them, and found that they had only voted for you and your friend. Interesting!

You can see my reasoning above.

I'll reset you back to 0, but lets not have this happen again.

And actually, because I won't be rude and abusive here, I gave you the 4 votes you had from more trustworthy IP addresses.

Its also now possible to give unfriendly votes from the profile pages. Bit of a typo on my end.

Well fact of the matter still is, after we were reset to 0, all of my friend who had voted, and I have no idea who those IP's belong to, probably proxies I would assume... But no one who had voted in past can revote.

But by all means go block those proxies because I had nothing to do with those votes.

Yes, they were removed, and like I say, the legit looking votes have been added again. For all I know, those votes were intended to be negative votes against you, but my slight typo had prevented that. Sorry about those issues.

You can view VAC bans on the player's profiles now, but I could add something of the sort. It would only show VAC bans of people who have ratings.

After a bit of work, added a few new things:

    1. XML files are now recached every 5 minutes through a cronjob. This means that no one should receive a long load time (it was originally every hour when someone visited the site, so one user every so often would get a load time of 10-20 seconds. Not optimal or wanted).
    2. The same cron grabs and updates Steam usernames every 5 minutes and adds them to the database, which leads me to number 3....
    3. You can now search for players names instead of their Steam profile URLs.

In my original code before I had released the site, you actually entered the Steam username, ID, and profile manually. I decided however that would mean that their names could change or be mistyped. Not exactly what I wanted. I mean, if say james changed his name to john, people would search for john and find no results.

So I decided just to do all queries by the Steam profile URL. But that is a bit more difficult and time consuming. With my addition of HAVING to cache XML files, I just decided to, at the same time, add their name to the database. Seems to be working fine.

You should also be able to search for fragments of names, like this: http://rustreputation.com/lookup.php?search=insane
That returns InsaneParrot. Meaning that you won't have to type long names, etc.

Lastly, to keep load times smooth, I decided not to have single files cached when a new user is submitted. Instead, their file will be cached when the cron runs. This means that you won't be able to search for their names right after you submit. It might take up to 5 minutes.

Oh, and I will need to fix searching by Steam URL. Right now, only perma links are searchable.

If you have any other ideas to be added, feel free to let me know!
