Theres no such thing as admin abuse. Admins own the server and can do WHATEVER they want with it, regardless if they destroy your house or not. Their server, their rules. You cant tell them how to control THEIR server.
This comment is almost too stupid to deserve a legitimate response, but I'll give one anyway:

The gaming community, like any other, has developed a system of ethics. It is implied that a server owner or administrator does not use administrative powers (which exist to administer the game, not to play it) unless it's in an official capacity. That precludes: using god powers to help yourself, using god powers to help your friends, using god powers to impede anyone else with the exception of hackers/exploiters/rulebreakers... all in ways that impact other players. Spawning items to test build on the north end of the map, or building arenas for events? Not abuse. Spawn-building an admin tower from which to shoot people? Abuse.
The majority of players see this as reasonable and rational, and thus it is, for the majority of the community, implied. There are naturally a lot of gray areas.

If you or someone you know buys a server and wants to do whatever you want with regards to other players and their houses, you can specify that in: server description, server rules, MOTD etc.. Once you do that, it's no longer implied that you won't be acting like a complete and total tool.

But you won't do that, and neither will anyone else. Because the only players who log onto a server where they know the admin has announced he reserves the right to fuck with the players and act like a complete tool are either his friends, his clan, or players who expect to be getting something out of it.

Admin abuse occurs when a tool pretends to be just another server admin adhering to the implied ethics of server management, decides to use god powers selectively in ways that disrupt the balance of the game, and then use the shitty excuse you just posted above. It's a subjective term, meant to be interpreted subjectively, as a way to warn other players away from certain servers. Which I would do for any server admin that said what you just said.

So the term "admin abuse" .....
It's all a matter of personal opinion, so there really can't be a set definition.

I can rent a server and name it "Survival PVP" and instantly ban everyone that enters for the lolz. Theres nothing I am doing wrong in MY server and not restricted by Facepunch.

All I see when I read this is "I think someone must be taking advantage because this base is large, I might as well take advantage of other mechanics to ruin everything for this person that may or may not have done something wrong."

People are too quick to assume admins are taking advantage, I've never seen it so bad in any other game... it's a little disheartening, in my experience most admins are decent folks just trying to run a server.
Oh it's rather easy to see most of the time if it is the admin base or not.
And even then if it isn't, it's a lesson to build your base properly the next time.

In my experience most admins aren't decent folks and they abuse their powers especially when their group is getting stomped by another.

Our group has been banned on over 20 servers because we simply were better.
Ussually it's one or more of us that get's banned when the admin group is trying to raid us or we are raiding them or for some other stupid reason.
And that's why we make their base that has had a lot of work in it (spawning in) useless.

"Our group has been banned on over 20 servers" Not really surprising, considering your answer to things it to try and troll the ones who own the server. Now if those number could be multiplied by say 400 times, the poor owners that are just trying to run a simple griefless server would be rid of you guys for good

Well that's a silly example. It's the equivalent of setting your server to private, and you'd have exactly the number of players you deserved: 0.

Nobody is telling you you can't do what you want. Nobody (that I'm aware of) is telling you Facepunch is going to punish you for being a tool on your own server. Nobody is going to call the cops.
If your argument is based on these assertions, then you're attacking straw men. If you use your admin powers to screw with players, they'll label it abuse and call you out on public message boards. When most of the players have the same general idea of what abusing admin powers means, that's what it means. That's not a Facepunch rule... it's a rule of Life.

I'll repeat myself: put your $20 where your mouth is. Start a server, set the server rules to "I'm God, I do what I want and fuck you sideways", kit yourself out with kev and m4 and spawn-camp new players using teleport. Then come back and let us know how that works for you.

If you deserve it you get trolled, thats how we roll.
The trolling commences after the first of us get's banned though, we don't get banned because of it.

I never said that I want any players. You can also be a little bit more civilized and stop insulting.
What if my point is EXACTLY to ban them while they connect? Would work good for me.

That isnt admin abuse, its player abuse. The thing that people dont take into account much in these cases is the amount of work that goes into being an admin.

And humans all have a limit, so when you get the player that likes to "stir the pot" in my opinion it goot to make an example of them like in this video. If you join our server just to be an asshole, i put my size 10 shoe in your size 1 ass. Its a simple concept, but the ones that cry admin abuse are the ones griefing, trolling, etc.

I know, it wasn't meant to be a serious post with serious replies. Since I used to administrate on servers but now that I hardly play games and look at it from a '3rd perspective' I just found it funny.

I got it, I was agreeing with you while jabbing the ribs of those that scream admin abuse at the smallest of things.

    Not admin abuse:
-You've received a ban from an admin, and believe they made an incorrect decision

    Admin abuse:
-An admin uses their admin powers to target you with malice
-An admin uses their admin powers to disrupt gameplay
-An admin uses their admin powers to give themselves or friends a significant advantage

If any of these things are made clear as being allowed to people joining the server then there's no problem.

Nowhere in the quoted post did I insult you. I pointed out that your example was silly and your implications were fallacious. If you don't want players, you can note that on your server description/rules/motd... or you can use a whitelist. That's what a mature admin would do, IMO.

If your goal is to lure players in, tell them you don't want them and then ban them "for lolz"... you would be more akin to a childish troll than anything else. That's not an insult, it's a hypothetical observation. Either way, wtf does your hypothetical trolldom have to do with the existence of a near-universal subjective ethical concept of administrative abuse on a publicly-hosted multiplayer game?

Admin abuse, as understood by most players, is using god powers to hamper players' gameplay experience or upset the inherent balance of the game. I would add the addentum: EXCEPT where specifically cited in the server rules or description. If you make it clear you're going to do whatever you want to whomever you want, you won't get players... and you need players to abuse admin powers. Savvy?

"This comment is almost too stupid to deserve a legitimate response, but I'll give one anyway" this one may or may not be considered insulting, but it is certainly rude to say the least.

Then it's rude, and you can click on some little flag somewhere to indicate that. It's also not the post he was quoting when he brought up insults.

Saying "there's no such thing as admin abuse because I own the server" is asinine, because admin abuse is a subjective community standard... ergo this discussion topic. If it's asinine, it's asinine... regardless of how much sugar you pour on top. If you disagree, by all means.. explain why.

Admin abuse has been around since the dawn of time honestly. I don't understand why people get so butt hurt about it. Don't like the server? Find another one.. there's hundreds of other servers to choose from.

Feel like being an example of good ethics? Use your own money, and host a server. Than you can be "honorable" in your own way.
