Third-person lets you look around corners, an advantage first-person doesn't have. If third person view became an option again, it would quickly become a necessity, otherwise you're giving up situational awareness that others can have.
So, how about no.

I'd say no. It gives an advantage over people who'd rather play in first person.

I'd vote no aswell. The idea is good, but the implemention is bad (can't say I know a better one though) to the "I can see 180 degrees). Just look at ArmA.

3rd person goes against what Rust is trying to be. I vote no 3rd person.
