    HOW TO FIX

*Thanks to Garry & Dev team*

    1. Open Steam
    2. Right Click Rust "preferences "
    3. open Set launch options
    4. Enter one of the listed codes below

    -force-opengl (Windows only)
Make the editor use OpenGL for rendering, even if Direct3D is available. Normally Direct3D is used but OpenGL is used if Direct3D 9.0c is not available.

    -force-d3d9 (Windows only)
Make the editor use Direct3D 9 for rendering. This is the default, so normally there's no reason to pass it.

    -force-d3d11 (Windows only)
Make the editor use Direct3D 11 for rendering.

After the recent update I have experienced unplayable artifacting, which sucks because I do a Let's Play series and can no longer record with this problem. Hope it gets fixed.

Card: Radeon HD7750 Dual DVI 2GB

HEAPS of Artifacts', especially with trees and foliage ( even with grass disabled ). Still have better frame rates and gpu usage than when using the web version. Some times i get this horrid bug when looking forward instead of down at the floor causes jagged flickering artifacts that cause the client to crash. ( this has happened twice in 2 1/2 hours )

    stock AMD Radeon HD 7800

this, this is what people with radeon 7900 seem to be getting. ive got 7970's and tried without duel and same problem. FPS is still better by atleast 4x than webplayer but gpu is locked at 99% and artifacts are fucking mad crazy

all I get is a black screen after loading. It happened after I changed some of the graphic options, so I can probably fix it by deleting those so they restore to their defaults. I just don't know where they're stored.

EDIT: it only happens when in fullscreen (using a tv monitor might have complications, as it does with some other games)

I have Radeon HD 7870 2gb that is not Overclocked. Updated all drivers as well. Here is me recording my artifacting so others can see what I have been dealing with. It makes the game almost unplayable for me. :/

I have this issue everywhere as well. In webplayer and now also on steam. When I first started playing I wasn't having the problem as badly. There are times when I can play without it occurring where as others it is right away.

    Edited:

My graphics card also read 99% activity also.

    Edited:

It seems to be always the direction of the sun or the moon. Perhaps the rendering of the lighting is causing it with our AMD cards.

Yeah i haven't managed to try it through steam but i get this on the web player.

I got the Matrix Radeon HD 7970 Platinum 3gb
    Overclocked.
    Jagged Artifacts.
    Haven't checked.

I saw a post saying the web player only uses your integrated graphics card.. How true this is, i don't know. I haven't really monitored my GPU. But i imagine its not true.

Ill have a go on steam later and get back to you.

That happened to me in the webplayer the other day. I'm pretty sure it starts doing it when my card gets a bit warmer. I've got a 7970 Ghz Edition 3gb. I get decent fps though.

I kind of liked the map better without the rocks, not just because frame rate but it was more open and had a different feel.

I did indeed type that garry. But the artifacts do not happen all the time it's just after I've been playing for a while. I figured my card was just getting hawt.

By default unity webplayer used integrated if you have an hybrid gpu system. But you can change it (tested on an Alien ware).

I had the same artifacts temporary with the web version. I have an HD 7970 OC version (stock OC). But sometimes artifacts disappeared after typing grass.on false

Rather weird, decided to test it but when I logged in everything was fine all of a sudden after for the past hour or so of trying i kept getting the artifacts all over my screen.

I logged in when it was night, all the other times I logged in when it was day and the problems instantly appeared.

Now I am playing normally both in day and night,so I really think its a problem loading the game when the game is in day mode (maybe problem loading the lightning effects by the sun?)

EDIT:just logged in again when its day and everything is FINE,so I really have no clue whats causing it..

Didn't even have to type grass.on False in the console at any point so i think it has nothing to do with it.

Unfortunately, Yes. This one one of the first solutions I tried myself. I can join the game and play for roughly 1-5 minutes, then the extreme artifacting happens. These issues started after the map was updated with the new rock textures. So something had to have changed to cause this issue. Hope you guys can figure it out. Would love to get back to my LP series to help promote this awesome game.

I have a Gigabyte 7950 OC. Running Catalyst 13.9. Have not checked the GPU usage, but I have been experiencing artifacting errors for quote some time now. Turning off the grass does not help, this problem existed before grass was implemented.

I posted a bug report on this a while ago: https://github.com/Facepunch/rust-issues/issues/726

    I have a 7970, on the 13.11 beta.

The extreme artifacting for me seems to happen whenever the sun/moon is rising/setting. But I'm not sure if it's always coincided. Sometimes I get it pretty quickly, sometimes I don't.

It still happens on steam and webplayer even if I type grass.on False in the console.
I haven't noticed anything that causes it, or what stops it. When it happens, it seems to come from a certain direction and if I look the opposite way, the graphics are fine.
Sometimes it resolves itself for a little bit but I'm starting to get used to playing with it.
On the webplayer it used to crash after awhile, but it doesn't seem to cause the steam version to crash.
