Personally, I think the huge focus should be scavenging. The map needs more abandoned buildings and more radioactive zones, and it should help put emphasis on PvP as a means of scavenging.
I think garry is trying to make this somewhat different from dayz and warz. but you never know they still might add a few more npc area's

I just hope with the new map that the resource spawns are a bit more spread out

I have no problem with spread out resources as long as you can guarantee that if you set out to go on a resource run, you will come back with what you needed. Right now you have to be lucky that someone didn't get to the closely packed 4 lumber piles before you, causing you to wait another 10 mins or whatever the respawn timer is.

Is this map a new addition to the old one like combining the two making a larger map? or will this be it's own map?

Sounds like a replacement of the existing map.

By 'populate the map' I don't mean with shitty wooden buildings. That's not our end game. Our end game is for users to be able to populate the map with everything you would expect to see in a populated map that had been built by hand.

    hell yeah

Full replacement. They said they would shrink the map from the current 16km down to 8km, but also expand the usable area to the full extent of the map (right now only 2km of the map is used and the rest is empty, so players end up massively crowded together)

I just had a really good idea.

Add different climate regions in one map! For instance: Cool/Cold, Hot/Dry, Hot/Humid, and Temperate.

You could add in specific animals for each climate types. That would be an easy way to introduce new resources for new items. (snakes drop venom glands, crocodile drops leather, loot eggs from duck nest)

We're on a 8x8km island and not minecraft, micro-climates are a thing, but not to such a small scale :p

Well, if you want some inspiration (in the minecraft/voxel engine area) look what they did here. (Their whole world is made of voxels, everything... including rocks and trees)

The distant rocks look kinda... poopish.

I was thinking something like this:

    but with more of a...

    ..climate.

    with how Gary put it
When the old map was created we didn't have building. The game was very much DayZ style, going from place to place, killing zombies.

The game is headed away from that. We don't need to make a huge map populated with buildings and places. We want the occupants of the map to be able to populate it.. so when you join one server it will be completely different to another.

By 'populate the map' I don't mean with shitty wooden buildings. That's not our end game. Our end game is for users to be able to populate the map with everything you would expect to see in a populated map that had been built by hand.
it would make alot of sense to have a voxel engine. be able to craft pickaxes or shovels(slowly knocking chunks out of the area), and thats how you get your ores, dig out caves, basements for bases

I agree, but how much a voxel engine cost? Like the Voxel Farm Engine? I didn't see a price on the website, so it must be pretty damn high.

well the most expensive voxel asset in the unity store is 100$ extremely affordable, its just what the devs wanna do though

To me that pushes it into DayZ territory of endgame PVP/ turning it into a purely PVP game rather than PVP/E. I hated DayZ in the end because of this and one its major failings.

I don't think the devs are looking for voxel based mechanics. Seems like they want a hybrid build/survive style. What I've described as "a three way between Day Z, War Z, and Minecraft".

Just wondering, if garry said he wanted the maps to be developed with populations,

Could this mean the patriotic nigrahs have found a place to build fort longcat?

I hope the community allows for these kinds of cities. Many communitys (Warz, dayz) said "We are all mostly friendly" but 85% of the time I got killed by people. People who had nothing and I had m249s etc. Yelled friendly and dropped theyr makarov or somthing just to pick it up the moment i turned around and shoot me in the head. I ofcourse mean no offense to this community but seriously, many people say "I am friendly" but I cannot see these people. The only thing I see is people harassing me with a shotty after I just spawned with a rock, 2 bandages and a torch, is that really worth the bullets?

TL:DR I hope this community will allow for these citys because right now, everybody with something better than a rock attacks you, no matter what.

And a side not, you should be able to kill players in your base in PVE, i am tired of standing in my home waiting for someone to bust my door, take shit I couldn't put in my inventory and the just leave like "What are you going to do, huh? Shoot me or defend yourself? I don't think so, thanks for that m4 btw"

    Edited:

Wasn't S.T.A.L.K.E.R. somehow in the mix with the reference being "radiation like in Stalker"?
