This guide is for 64bit computers only.

For what it's worth, I thought I may as well re-post Chapi's guide. I had to re-write it; however the original thread was by him.
However, Rust will be on Steam soon - which will run loads better anyway.
If I'm forgetting something, please tell me. I am on the highway right now writing this (visiting family) so it may take me until later to fix it, but yeah.

Step 1) Install Firefox Nightly which is basically Firefox but for 64bit computers. Here is the direct link that I used:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o....installer.exe

Step 2) Uninstall any previous version of "Unity Web Player" that you have because we are going to install the 64bit version:

Step 3) Download this version of Unity (4.2.1f4):
    http://webplayer.unity3d.com/downloa...ayerFull64.exe

Step 4) After installing the above version of Unity, open up Nightly and visit this URL:
    http://unity3d.com/webplayer
This page should show the following on the right:

If you do not see this, it can mean one of a few things:
    A) You are not using a 64bit computer/can't support the 64bit Unity version for some reason
    B) You are not using the 64bit version of Nightly - meaning it's looking for the 32bit version of Unity.
    C) You did not uninstall Unity and install the 64bit version
    D) You are using a different, non-64bit web browser - meaning it's (again) looking for the 32bit version of Unity.

Step 5) Make sure Rust is working - go visit www.playrust.com/serverlist/ and choose a server. You may need to "Allow" the Unity plugin.
If you look at your process list, plugin-container.exe should be using about 1.8GB of memory.

Step 6 [optional?]) Allocate more memory for Nightly to use. Type "about:config" into the URL bar, and right click somewhere and click New > Integer

    As the name type "browser.cache.memory.capacity"
For the value, it's totally up to you. This value is in KB so type in whatever number applies to you.
For example, I am using a computer with 8GB ram and I want to use 4GB max memory, so I type "4096000"

You do understand that the unity web player limits memory to 2gb anyway, right? So extending how much the browser can do past 2 doesn't really affect anything.

People could still use the web browser in other tabs and may need more memory for that, but for the webplayer itself you won't see a big difference.

That's part of the reason it says "Optional?"

Uninstall Unity Web Player completely, clear cache and cookies in Firefox Nightly, and then try again. It's also possible that Rust is looking for a specific version of the player, but this guide was working before, so it might be a new bug with Rust instead.

Hey, useful thread, except I don't know why your recommending Firefox Nightly? Firefox nightly is just latest development version of Firefox, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/970739
    Instead of nightly try http://www.waterfoxproject.org/

how can I improve performance with 32bit computer?
Wish I could help ya there, can allocate more ram as has been said but unity only uses 2 gigs, make sure to use fullscreen plus don't open any extra tabs just have a dedicated browser for playing rust. A separate high performance one would be ideal, (Water fox is high performance browser but don't know if there is a 32 bit version but I assume someone's made something similar in 32 bit also Grass.on false should improve framerate plus make it insanely easy to spot packs) BTW for other 64 bit I only started using waterfox an hour before I posted as didn't have any performance issues till map update (the rocks) as I have a powerful rig till cliffs update(which I love.) Which I am sure will be better once its optimized and/or on standalone client. And I wanted to say it is working GREAT! So any other 64 bits needing performance boost, follow tutorial as normal except use waterfox instead of nightly (nightly is just latest Dev version for those who were too lazy to open my mozilla support link) waterfox is also just in general a pretty awesome high performance browser plus has some plugins already built in that I like. I cannot recommend it enough if your like me and need a constant smooth maxed fps. particularly useful for getting rid of that choppiness while looking around. Still frame drops in certain areas but that is to be expected in alpha and usually only drops from a capped smooth 60 down to 50. Will be writing down those areas for them to be fixed later, I recommend my fellow alphaians to do the same

I think this thread should be stickied till the game clients out, lots of people constantly complaining constantly about bad FPS in chat ingame.

Minimal difference for rust, as everything is done through the Unity Player, and nothing except invoking the plugin happens through firefox'es plugin layer. Plus nightly has both stability and performance improvements, is updated more frequently, and has a heck of a lot more time and and developers riding on it compared to Palemoon or Waterfox.

Good to know but I have found water fox project to be smoother ingame then nightly, but yes nightly is updated more frequently as it is just the most current dev iteration of Firefox not sure if its necessarily more stable though. swapping from nightly to waterfox got rid of the choppiness when turning around quickly for me. Client will be out soon though and we won't have to use either thankfully. I recommended Waterfox as its meant for running these type of things also has some useful troubleshooting tools built in on crashes. Also because I was confused at the nightly is just Firefox for 64 bit computers as that is not what nightly even is.

EDIT: Seems with Alpha keys not being sold, transition will be incoming very soon I feel now, so if you don't feel like installing our browser recommendations just wait, shan't be long I'd imagine.
