Howdy folks, I tried playing Rust a week or two ago but had this problem where I'd perpetually walk forward and to the left. Mostly to the left.

I tried running the game through Internet Explorer, thinking the problem could perhaps be with Firefox but at the time, the download would always hang at ninety-nine percent.

I've tried running the game in firefox and internet explorer since then, but...it would hang on the download every single time.

Today, however, I managed to get into the game in both browsers...but I have the walking left problem and I haven't the slightest idea as to what might be causing it. I can walk to the right and it overrides the leftward motions of my character, but when I let go of that direction I just start walking to the left again. It seems that when I hit A to walk left manually, it makes me walk more straight to the left, rather than diagonally left and forward...but when I release it I continue walking diagonally as before.

I don't recall having this issue with any game before Rust, so I can't imagine it being anything to do with my hardware, though maybe the game just doesn't like my keyboard(Microsoft Sidewinder X4).

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this or what I might do to fix it?

    Try unplugging your keyboard/mouse/gamepad/joystick.

It appears to happen even if I unplug my keyboard before opening/loading the game.

It also happens if I unplug the wireless receiver for my 360 controller.

It even happens if I unplug my mouse(Razer Naga Hex Wraith Red), though I had to plug that back in to activate the unity window after the game loaded.

    How bothersome >_>

Yeah this has to be an issue on your end, I don't think I've seen anyone report a similar issue. Do you have any other keyboards you could try by chance?

If the problem happens even when I don't have my keyboard plugged in, a new keyboard won't likely solve it ;P

I, however, have seen other people posting about this issue...or a similar "walking" issue. Though theirs seems to be easily remedied by restarting their browser or not using chrome.

I just don't know what could be causing this issue for me, I play other Unity games without fault but in Rust, I'm always walking forward and to the left.

If you see constant walking in a certain direction, try mashing and tapping at the key that would cause you to normally walk in that direction.

Try cleaning your keyboard thoroughly as well. Unscrew all screws on the bottom, pop out each key, wash the keys in a strainer, dry them, wash the board that holds all the keys, dry it, wash the keyboard membrane that sits between the keys and motherboard, dry it, and put it all back together (it takes a long ass time, I know. It is worth it).

Whether you unplug your keyboard or not, a stuck key could still be registering as stuck. Try playing another game for a long enough time after you read this to verify if it is JUST Rust.

Uninstall you official keyboard drivers and let Microsoft pick one for you, as in a common default driver.
if that don't work mash the right key a lot faster.. :)

I don't need to clean or hit my keyboard to make this problem go away, the problem happens even when my keyboard isn't plugged in >_>

I also said that tapping the forward or left keys don't help the situation at all.

I guess I'll just have to wait 'till the downloadable client comes out, hopefully I'll be able to walk straight then >_>
