If anything, the lack of a thick atmosphere will actually make the bullets even more lethal (less friction with the air~).

And if you're going to say "OMFG THERES NO AIR ON MARS LOL BULLETS WONT WORK COD BLACKOPS ZOMBIES IN SPACE IS FAKE LOL #GENIOUS", then just leave, get the fuck out, most modern bullets have oxidizers inside of them, meaning the bullets don't need air around them to ignite (I.E so they can fire underwater~).

Maybe he meant that they won't work because m16s, especially the early ones, like the one pictured, have a tendency to jam pretty easily.
But the guy on the right has got an m14, so maybe they're not in so much trouble after all...
