This is a comic project I've been working on now for about 3 weeks or so. This is my first GMod release of any kind, except for a couple of concept poses in January that I ultimately scrapped. I am still very new to GMod and posing in general and my lack of experience should be obvious to more veteran posers in these pages. I've never made a comic before in any capacity and had to learn how to use photoshop to get this done.

The comic is called A.C.E.R, which stands for 'Agency for the Control of Extra-dimensional Rogues' (It's an odd mouthful, I know) and stars a character named Karl who works for said agency as an enforcer of sorts. What makes this story interesting is that the world in which Karl inhabits is filled with characters from various video games and it's his job to make sure they behave while they visit and to act with force if they become aggressive (Or go Rogue as it's referred). This first issue is mostly an introduction to the characters and their relationships to one another, but the series as a whole is intended to be very action-oriented with light humour on occassion.

When I started this project I didn't know how to do layouts and I was (And still am) practicing posing, so the quality of the comic gets better as it goes along. I got a lot of photoshop assistance and critique from Mythos, so I want to start by thanking him for his invaluable assistance. Also I want to elaborate that I understand crossover material isn't an original concept and carries with it certain... expectations. I really hope to do the idea justice with this comic.

Again, this is my first GMod release (Of any kind) so I'm very eager to hear any thoughts or critique on the comic. I intend to make more of this, so any advice or comments will help to make future content better quality. If you read it, thankyou, I wholeheartedly appreciate your interest and hope you enjoyed it!

EDIT: I'm compiling a list of credits for this, 'cause I used a lot of different assets.

Thanks! They're page numbers. I guess it's not as obvious when it's laid out like this.

Mythos mentioned that you had something great cooking, never thought I'd see it so soon. At the moment my only criticisms is that some of the angles are a tad boring for their respected scenes, which isn't really a big deal at all, and as you progress in making your comic(s) you'll get better in every aspect. In addition a few of the poses could've been better, mainly background characters, again not a big deal, but it distracted me a bit. That aside I like the layout, it gives off a real comic feel to it and I like the story. I look forward to seeing more from you.

Really, I could have kept going and made twice as many pages but I didn't want to get carried away without taking the opportunity to get some kind of feedback. 16 pages is enough I think for people to get a feel for where I am and how I can improve. In fact you demonstrated that perfectly with your points there, which I'm very grateful for. I'll be keeping your critique in mind when I start posing the next chapter, thankyou very much!

Your poses are awkward occasionally, but the layouts and such are solid. I look forward to more of your stuff.

Also, fingerpose every goddamn hand people are gonna see. I don't care if it's just sitting at the guy's side, fingerpose it. The default hand sticks out like a sore thumb, especially when it's repeated many many times over the course of a comic.

Thankyou for your feedback! I've some experience with posing by this point, but on occassion I still struggle with certain ragdolls and positions. So it's totally understandable some may look awkward. I'm constantly trying to better myself in that department. I've seen the fingerposing criticism a few times before, but I never realised it was such an important point. I'll definitely take this onboard though and pose every visible hand in future.

That map is fy_industrial_day and I believe I got it from Gamebanana.

I want to thank everyone for your awesome encouragement (I will be taking all your feedback seriously), it means a lot after finishing something like this. It's not a mammoth project by any means, but I had to learn a lot before I was done and I've still got a long way to go so your support makes all the difference. Really, thankyou.

I came in here expecting some sort of typical "HALO MEETS COD MEETS L4D EPIC" crossover. I'm astonished at your quality, and your content. You've got something on your hands that is unlike anything else, something unique, something with potential. Keep up with this, I'm in love with the story.

Really impressive. After the first few panels (3 pages) I was worried the layout would stay boring the way through, but you actually did a good job after that.

I would thank you for the kind references to my "help" (even though, as we both know, it was very minimal and not deserving of a reference to my username in bold letters - emphasis for humor, please laugh), but I'd rather thank you for the excellency that you have delivered.

Seriously, this is the best GMod comic I've seen since... what, 2007? No offense to all the other writers who put so much effort into their work, but this is something else. This is a combination of pure skill with editing (acquired in only three weeks!), fantastic talent for writing and incredible ingenuity. From the little I'd seen of the comic I expected greatness, but I did not expect excellency. The minimal kinks I see are stuff you'll definitely deal with easily as you gain experience, but it's already at such a level of quality that it's really easy to ignore. You're a newbie (no offense) and this is only your first, but you're already making all my efforts in the past five years look like passable excuses for comics. And I couldn't be happier about that.

I haven't said much of the series itself yet, so I will: it's great. Excellent concept and amazing writing. In one issue you've managed to really nail down the personalities of the protagonists, the whole concept and introduce a sweet mystery. It's like a great TV pilot, really. Great job.

I do realize I'm suspect of partiality since I arguably lent a hand - and I can't stress enough that my involvement was minimal -, but my opinion is honest: this is the best GMod comic I've read in a long while. You don't just have potential, you are, right now, one of the best, and this is only your first attempt. Keep it up, I can't wait to see more!

overedited pap stuffed with injokes and unnecessary padding instead of actual plot-based/webcomic/comic-book style works with Anime Ace 2.

A-ha! This doesn't use Anime Ace 2, therefore it is not old-style! Your logic is WRONG!

I'm just kidding, of course. Now I feel good with being called "old-school", thanks.

I'm really overwhelmed with the positive comments for my comic. I was making this more to see if I could, and have an outlet for some creativity, I wasn't even convinced I was going to upload it. I actually expected a lot of criticism because of some sloppy mistakes I made (Which I would have been totally fine with assuming it was useful criticism). It's really heartening to see people taking an interest in the storyline and the characters. I've said it before and I'll say it again - everything you folks mention I do listen to and it helps me get better. Your support has been a strong inspiration. I'm really excited to keep it going.

Also, I'm a dork for organizational hierarchies and the like, so I wish you'd do a chart or something on the side to explain how A.C.E.R. works.

You'd have to find a few actively interested in getting back to comics. It has been a few years, after all.

Also, why is this thread so near the second page? Why are you not replying, guys? Isn't it good? Hm? Isn't it? Is it really doing anyone a disservice to keep it active?

    You make me sad.

    *cough*

Well, ever since PHW went kablooie and the forum went crazy, people just started to split apart. Then Facepunch lost its comic section and most people stopped doing them. There was a phase were basically every comic maker was in a particular forum, only there were about 10 or more forums, so we all split up.

Actually, if people are still interested in doing comics and wanna talk about it, hit me up by PM. Dactrius, Fort, Blooper Reel, Waxx, okimin and I are basically a tiny group working on comics and trying to resuscitate the trend.

It's good to see a comic of notable quality and effort in these parts again; granted I have not ventured into this part of the forums for some time. I can honestly say I am pleasantly pleased and surprised with this comic, it is reminiscent- if not nostalgic- of the comics of PHW or the better known comic makers of yesteryear (whom I forget their names at the moment).

I look forward to seeing more of this. Perhaps it may even inspire me to continue one of my comics.
