Tried to capture something emotional and powerful, using more of a unique method.

Constructive criticism is more than welcome! Trying something new here so I'd like to know how to improve!

The guy hanging around as it where don't see much of anything.

You got close to the depressing atmosphere, but there is no depth to the light which would make this a lot better.
Pose and props alone does not make a good pic. The light must support the mood. Is pretty flat here.

Thanks for your advice! I'm actually very new with photoshop so I'm still far from knowing all the secrets. I took a swing at adding depth to the lighting, what do you think?

I see this term everywhere. What exactly defines "flat" lighting and posing?

It means the picture lacks depth or variety. It means the pose is either boring or the lighting/colour scheme is dull. One way to. Solve that problem is by adding shadows to contrast the light; creating more of an in depth, interesting scene. Well thats my quick idea of "flat". I'm not one of the pro's so I can't really be the one to judge, but hope that helped.

Nice. The posing on the crying guy looks a tad stiff, but otherwise, it's a good picture.
