Taking a break from my overly ambitious projects to relax and then I accidentally make these. And yeah they have flaws like everything else but...holy fuck...this model is amazing...

EDIT: And this one is horrible but it's an example of ENV and Phong which are 'eh'. Mind the terrible smoke I added.

Okay... So wouldn't the "poses" look better if they weren't taken in a place that carries a lot of resemblance to the gm_construct darkroom?

That's an Aventador. There's a reventon as well but the wheels are too small so it looks ridiculous. And I swear I can't think of a single time when I've actually though phong looked good, it's always greasy and mismatched. Like a black anything with phong and env map would probably look pretty bad in the dark room.

EDIT: Okay phong isn't that bad, I just keep thinking of all the bad times we had together. *sniffle*

    This is Reventon.

    Edited:

Anyway, about the Aventador, it looks better with this colour.

Well as expected phong and envmap look like absolute unreconcilable shit, sorry to say. Maybe I just need to tweak everything?

I always take the envmap shit out of the VMTs. I've never seen a model that looked good with it on.

Or you could make your own cubemap texture just for that car, and make it based on what setting or atmosphere your scene will be on.

that's actually really good, it looks like a real car. tone it down a bit and it'll look great.

it's one of those things that must be used sparingly and carefully.

    Edited:

wait youve got the car directly above water why do you think it looks over-reflected.

I'm of the opinion that those don't really look good, they just aren't bad enough to ruin it. Dogs face is really pushing being noticeably weird, and the hunter image is a bit small.

A rusty beat up robot that's somehow shiny as hell and aliens that use the shit reflectiveness to seem more otherworldly are hardly good examples.

The reflectiveness in the Hunters is over exaggerated to give the armor a more alien feel. It's not the kind of reflectivity that anything would have save for maybe some types of bugs and pearlecent paint.

That's true, it's good for creating an interesting lighting scheme but I don't think it's realistic per se.

the problem with envmap is that it's so map specific. map with shitty envmaps = shitty reflections

that's why i prefer phong with warping

Don't polished cars have just as much reflectivity as the Hunters do?

that mainly depends what kind of paint it is, but for the most part they only reflect about as much as you'd expect a collection of metal panels to

I mean maybe if it were literally just polished and it had the right kind of paint it would, but otherwise probably not

They don't reflect in the same way. But regardless, it looks like shit no matter what I do with it so I think I'm abandoning ship. It was a nice one shot deal though.

I disagree. Envmapping with correct amount and right parameters can look very good when mixed with phong with right parameters, as seen here.

Sorry, I still don't think it looks good on either of your images, maybe it's just because I've been paying such close attention to it now that we're talking about it. I'm think I'm just going to pretend I had them all done over with matte because a Lamborghini isn't snobby enough already.

oh man that shadow on the back lol

    edit:

Oh and this one is the Reventon.
