Facepunch was never an overly friendly community, I don't know if you're just miss-remembering, or just making things up. Also when facepunch started up, most of the members were in the 14-18 age range, but its been 7 years since then, people move on in their lives. I just happen to work with the Source engine frequently, so I'm still around.

Why be nice on the internet if you don't really have to? Besides, shoving criticism down the artist's throat is the best way to make sure he gets it.

Angry Baker mastered it, then he disappeared from Screenshots.

When I was studying psychology, there was a line in the book that said: "A professional is able to take even the harshest form of criticism."

You should learn to do this, even though nobody has said anything offensive to you (at least nothing uncalled for).

    I beg to differ.
You can photoshop a picture however much you want, but if you don't do the work ingame first, then no matter what it will look like a pile of shit.

    what?

it's the opposite. i don't know if you're feeling bitter about stuff but the 2011-2012 level of work is far better than everything before it

08-09-10 was just css poses, dod poses, cod4 poses, all with pasted on explosions and muzzleflashes

stuff these days is far more original far more often and certain work really focuses on nothing but lighting and realistic materials and doesn't have a single excuse in it for a shit michael bay joke (seriously that guy might suck but the joke is dead now. you can't just use bay as a scapegoat for everything you don't like)

Facepunch was always filled by a bunch of useless fucks. Powerhungery moderators who love to ban people for the slightest reason. And of course the community, have which have turned in to pony-circlejerkers, 25% twilight fans (The first person to reply to OP's post, "Zeraxify" (which I knew him as Zerax years back) is a twilight diehard fan) and 25% other.

The only useful people in this community are the ones who actually create things, but then again those get critizied to death by all the dipshits which inhabit a good 80%-90% of the community. (Before you bitch and moan and go, HOOHOHOH YOU'RE MAKING UP STATISTICS, I've seen activity levels and what not on several differnt boards, easy to figure out whos a useless fuck and who isn't)

Ironically (This is the BEST PART), the person who replyed to OP first, Zerax, he was a co-founder with me who created the group "GMod Nation" many years back who hated how FP was inhabited by a bunch of useless assholes. Now he's become the asshole. I'm not sure if that's because of all the times you got beat up at school (I am NOT making this up, he chatted about it with me several times on Steam chat years back), or something else.

Thank god the only Garry's Mod related thing I use is garrysmod.org for addons/etc.

People only improve wth critisism hybridthehobo. Surely fp is filled with asshats that treat new people on the forums like shit, but there are also nice people who will guide them without being harsh and useless. I laughed when you said this "The only useful people in this community are the ones who actually create things, but then again those get critizied to death" I am sorry but you sound like a typical Deviant art user that draws horrible ms paint sonic oc's and when people want to help him improve by giving him constructive critisism he blocks them after he rages at them for "insulting' his deviation and calls them trolls. And Zerax is fine, i've seen him being nice to new posers and such.

Maybe you were treated badly back in the days, or had bad experiences with other members.'

I've been here since 2006, before addons or even fingerposing, back when Gmod.org hosted screenshots, and to be honest I'm still terrified of posting sometimes. That's the way it should be, because I know I can rely on this forum to kick my ass if it needs kicking. That's what I love about facepunch. If I do some photography or make some music, my friends will all pat my back and call it a day. Facepunch will rip my throat out and feed it to me, and more often than not that's what you need to better yourself. And as far as I can see, the ratio of civility to douchebagging mingery is very very good. I seldom see an argument or fight, and ironically the only one I've seen in weeks is one that I started myself.

Long story short, I love Facepunch and there's nothing I would change. Perhaps we could stick a newb thread about rendering superDOF, posing, tips, etiquette, etc, and copy paste it to newbies making crap threads, but otherwise it's a great system.

also the massive pony circlejerk this forum has become was a single thread about rigging pony models that you mistook for a general thread about rigging and didn't leave even after it was made apparent that was the running theme (ever since the OP posted a pony model in the OP post and derailed the topic at hand)

Not to mention the sheer hate a lot of members of this subforum exhibit towards ponies :)

I've got to admit that Iv'e been hanging around for a while now, and never noticed the community to be overtly friendly to newcomers. Though as long as the newcomer had a head on their shoulder they were usually accepted sooner or later.

I don't browse this section at all, but if you guys come into trouble with idiots trolling it up and reporting posts isn't doing anything, someone shoot me a message and I'll come and sort things out.

In opposition to OP's statement of how FP was nice, I do have to agree to an extent with hybrid's position. We used to be REALLY triggerhappy with bans and stuff back in the day. I got banned for my first post (and thread), then as I became a better poster to avoid that kinda stuff I got banned several times for big intelligible posts simply because I was responding to trolls. I actually got perma'd on this account at the end of '08, heh. The place is a lot more lax as a whole these days, but I can't really vouch for how the GMod section is faring since I never really visited here except when I saw reports or someone links me a thread to check out.

Thanks for doing the exact same thing everyone else does. The title was a simple rig thread, but OP's post may have been responsible for the derailment of the tread. Plus, a standard thread (lets say for example, importing textures for other games) would start with one game, and it would always change between a good mix of games, or something completly different, and thats fine. When a pony thread is created (on purpose or via derailment) even the slightest peep of "can we do something else?" gets blasted by everyone else with "OHH HURR IF YOU DONT LIKE IT LEAVE" even though that was the original intention of the thread to begin with.

Not to mention the sheer hate a lot of members of this subforum exhibit towards ponies :)
It's not that people hate ponies. I personally don't care if people like ponies or not. It's when pony-lovers constantly push and shove their interests onto others (example above as I said with pony threads). Keep in mind thats just an example, there are much more extreme cases.

I'd just like to point out i'm not trying to piss anyone off. I've been lurking around Garry's Mod for a good 6+ years and I just wanted to share my "observations" if you want to call them. And thanks for agreeing on me that FP mods were very more triggerhappy back in the day, but I still see it around from time to time. Nothing I can do about that, or even remotly care anymore.

you found the right moderator to bring this up with. I still need a name for the Godwin's law of MLP, bringing up "Shoving it down our throats". It just doesn't happen here, the only aggressive shoving of beliefs is the blind hatred and blatant trolling. Read through this thread, you'll see it kinda goes OK until people start trying to headbutt. http://facepunch.com/threads/1161094

Still, I know where you're coming from, but the thread wasn't "Rigging General Discussion", it was "Rig this for garrys mod?", entailing it was a single question specifically for the posted subject. Yeah, he coulda named the thread a bit more descriptively but it's not hard to make the connection when you see the link he posted was a pony. Whether you like it or not, GMod ponies are actually a really popular thing on deviant art and such, who's to say that these people can't discuss rigging their models on the official forums for GMod? They're customers after all.

Of course it's probably good for their own sake that it's vaguely named, I think if that thread was any more obviously it'd be attacked heavily by random people around the forum who just happen to see it float by. However I don't want to see that thread turning into a general discussion thing for mlp, it's fine so long as they keep it to their models but it'll need closing if it just becomes "hey guys did you see that episode today OMG!". It's not that it's banned, but because it's a magnet and ends up getting people on both sides of that fence banned

but, whatever. That group is subject to more of fp's assholery, let them have their little bubble of a thread and make a new thread for general rigging questions or whatever if it's something that you have questions for and don't want pony models clogging it up

Maybe boards like Sensationalist Headlines are full of assholes, but I've always found Screenshots and Movies to be quite relaxed. Most people are cool enough and there are always guys ready to give out helpful tips. Usually those tips are contained in some sort of joke at your expense, but really, if you can't laugh at yourself who can you laugh at? If you make something that is pretty shit you should expect to get laughed at. I mean, when I posted this horrific trainwreck of a picture I expected to get made fun of. And I did. You take it in stride and move on. There's always a guy or two to say "Hey, this is garbage, but here's how you make it better"

I figured this out really quickly. The second thread I ever posted, I figured out that nobody here likes the "omg lol this is a funny coincidence soviets uploaded 666 days agao lmao satan lolololol!!!" crap. Since then, I've matured up and have posted serious threads instead of "crap thread"s.
