Don't make lens flares unless you have studied real PHOTOS Stop fucking making these annoying as shit movie lensflares. They work in movies because you have movement, they're not a constant constraint blocking everything behind them, because in movies they tend to move the cameras around, or change angles. Etc!
Realism is cool and all, and if you want a 100% realistic pic, as if it were taken by some random faggot standing there all calm with his supah dupah camera. (I only know the norwegian word for such cameras and I cba to google or translate) Then I guess you are kindof on the right track.
But, this is supposed to be eye-appealing, rite? You ain't doing this to study realism and photography. So you can digitally create photos to make them seem realistic, are you?
So compositing is important! I can't even see the mech. If it weren't in the title and I didnt already know the model, then I might not even have been able to see it is, infact. A mech.
So go study lens flares, go study digital art with lens flares. See how they change from realism to stylized. Then try making your own.
I'm not just trashing you, I'm trashing everyone who uses movie lensflares in pics.
Btw, I really like the fact that you are watching tuts. It's the first step to awesomeness, never stop doing that. When you think you're the best, try to improve even more! :D
Thanks for reading, have a nice day! :D
Thanks for the advice Hairy, I'll try to tone down the flares in future, but I am a bit JJ Abrams when it comes to it (I just think it looks cool personally :/) but yeah, I can see what you mean, the more recent picture I did featuring a mech is much more updated and has less flaring, but this really was just a test to see if it'd look alright, I think in the future when I'm a bit more refined at doing this it might come out looking just right, but meh, we'll see.
