    I would add maybe like a slight yellow/orange light coming from the direction of the camera, his face part's really dark, maybe just my pc

    I actually did have a red light by the camera originally, but I didn't like it much and so I omitted it. It doesn't look too dark on my screen though.

    the lighting is pretty poor compositionally. the main characters are really flat and dark but then there's this very comparatively bright background that is distracting

    Now that you say that, I see it too. I probably should have taken one without the godrays model and than blended it down. Oh well.

    I just couldn't get the lighting how I wanted it to begin with, since the models have different VMT settings so light affects them differently.
