I lie with the giver of life;
the giver of warmth
and the giver of time.
The giver is static
and the source of love.
The giver appreciates me regardless of what I've done
and appreciates me for all whom I've wronged.
He gives me something to lean on
and he and I perfectly get along.
The giver and I are best of friends;
for nobody loves me or treats me with kiss.
I wear a mask to cover my face
much like the giver hides under wood.
He and I are the same; tired -- terrified.
A light turns on and arms erode
finallly welcoming me to a wonderful abode.
Someplace special and someplace nice.
Even somewhere that gives the giver advice.
Arms usher me in but I have to leap the distance
I have to channel my strength; get over this.
I prepare for a dive -- a leap of faith.
To abandon my stress and forget what I hate.
To jump past problems and hop over error.
To reach somewhere with a smile; with my arms open
with suggestions abound and the attitude of an ocean.
Of someplace longing; of someplace warm.
A place with personality, love, and emotion.
I place that I can call my home -- where I am welcomed.
The giver isn't real; he's a facade.
He doesn't give me warmth
and he doesn't give me love.
For the giver was never real
No, he was a mere stump.
But he sits here with me
telling me to move on.

I want to snicker
and I want to grin
but my mouth is sealed shut
by an unruly pin.
The pin is depression
which I do not have
but it is a sign, I believe
of something that can.
It sits in modesty
sitting still as a stone
getting gray and dusty
growing cold, all alone.
As alone as it is,
I can not help but collect
all of my phobias
and of those I retract:
the most horrifying
is about to sprout
something so horrifying
I want to scream and shout.
Hell? Hell -- a glorified name
of something terrible
that will slaughter and maim.
Yet I am not phased
by this simple trove
for I have seen worse
as I've conquered that stone.

They are mushrooms. They represent the mold and fungus that plagues the road to your life. From the left; you are held stagnant, and the gap in between is the obstacle. At the end is the goal. It doesn't matter how to get to the goal to achieve it, but keep in mind this: the goal itself doesn't matter. It's the road that you take that molds who you are.
Your life is a road with many forks and turns; it looks gray and horrifying and is covered in fog. You're not sure what leads where and you have to cross obstacles to move in in your life. At the end of the road and at the end of it all, you can look back with a grin on your face and realize that the road wasn't that spooky or dark after all -- and the road you've taken is laden in gold and screams happiness.
He has taken the wrong road, and now he is stuck in darkness -- terrified to continue. Stage fright has stricken since all eyes are on him. It is time to advance and he doubts himself so. Time to leave childhood and enter the realm of adults. Time for responsibilities and for success. Success. What little room there really is to do so; and so many ways to fail. But roads are not constructed to lead to nowhere, and that he doesn't realize. I hope he does, and I hope he takes the right path, so the question is this:

I am used to the dark, he says.
I sit on withering bark for days.
Contemplating; deciding
stagnant yet able.
Calculating myself -- deceit.
The decisions are overwhelming.
The light turns on and blinds me, he says.
And the arms reach out in warm greeting
with voices begging me to leave my place
to join them in a better world; one worth seeing.
But I believe in deceit, and I am not fooled
for the darkness appreciates my being
and it enjoys the paths where I've stood.
The light is so bright and warm
and those voices so heavenly
that I am still stuck stagnant
not in fear or in doubt
but in sheer amazement
and these tears come out.
